Objective: translate and validate to Portuguese the Scale of Student Satisfaction and Self-Confidence in Learning. Material and Methods: methodological translation and validation study of a research tool. After following all steps of the translation process, for the validation process, the event III Workshop Brazil - Portugal: Care Delivery to Critical Patients was created, promoted by one Brazilian and another Portuguese teaching institution. Results: 103 nurses participated. As to the validity and reliability of the scale, the correlation pattern between the variables, the sampling adequacy test (Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin) and the sphericity test (Bartlett) showed good results. In the exploratory factorial analysis (Varimax), item 9 behaved better in factor 1 (Satisfaction) than in factor 2 (Self-confidence in learning). The internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha) showed coefficients of 0.86 in factor 1 with six items and 0.77 for factor 2 with 07 items. Conclusion: in Portuguese this tool was called: Escala de Satisfação de Estudantes e Autoconfiança na Aprendizagem. The results found good psychometric properties and a good potential use. The sampling size and specificity are limitations of this study, but future studies will contribute to consolidate the validity of the scale and strengthen its potential use.
Objectives: To specify the ritual of teaching basic nursing procedures, analyze the implications of their use and discuss their pertinence, in the face of the current contexts for teaching and for practice. Methods: A historical-social study of rituals incorporated in the teaching method of nursing theory-practice, in Portugal and Brazil. As primary sources, we used written documents (letters, brochures, manuals) and photographs, and as secondary sources: textbooks, master's theses, doctoral dissertations and journal articles. Results: The description, analysis, interpretation and synthesis exposed the reader to a journey through the history and rituals, and changes that have occurred in nursing and health education. The simulation was discussed in terms of its pertinence in the face of the ethical, safety and quality requirements in health care, technological advances, and changes in environments and contexts of clinical practice. Conclusion: The use of simulation meets the needs and the current context of education for theory-practice. OBJECTIVE: validate an assessment instrument of nursing students' satisfaction with simulated clinical experiences. METHOD: a 17-item scale was applied to students from the Teaching Diploma Program in Nursing, after a set of simulated clinical experiences. Factorial analysis with orthogonal varimax rotation was used, and the internal consistency was estimated to determine the validity of the scale. RESULTS: in a sample of 181 students, we found a high correlation between practically all items and the total scale, with an Alpha coefficient of 0.914. The scale items were divided in three factors: practical dimension, realism dimension and cognitive dimension, with good internal consistency coefficients of 0.89; 0.88 and 0.73, respectively. CONCLUSION: the scale complies with the validity requisites, revealing a high potential for use in research.
Objective:To develop a theoretical-practical script based on the opinion of experts to be used in simulated clinical activities. Method: Qualitative study through analysis of content of interviews with experts on the theme in order to develop the proposed script. Of the 24 invited experts, 12 specialists from educational institutions in Brazil and abroad participated in the study in compliance with the ethical precepts. The experts responded to questions on the characterization of their study attributes and described the items required for the development of a simulated scenario. In view of the responses obtained, data content was analyzed and classified into units and subunits of significance. Results: The items mentioned for the development of the script generated seven units of significance. The units and subunits of significance were gathered in three stages of the main components of the simulated scenario: prior, preparation, and finals. Conclusion: This study enables an innovative, stimulating teaching experience, making it easier for professors to use the simulation resource as a learning process in an effective and objective manner, as a guide to professors and researchers in the area of clinical simulation.
Nursing is facing a new reality with the inclusion of new strategies in the teaching/learning process. With high-fidelity simulation, the student acquires skills in a controlled and riskfree environment. A systematic literature review was conducted from December 2010 to February 2011 to identify the best scientific evidence on the gains perceived by the Nursing students in relation to high-fidelity simulation practice using specific inclusion criteria, descriptors and databases. Nine papers of high methodological quality were selected, which had been published between 2005 and 2011. The following themes emerged: satisfaction, learning and motivation, realism, selfconfidence, technical skills, reflection on action, and transfer of skills. High-fidelity simulation is valued by students for increasing their cognitive and psychomotor perception of the clinical reality that awaits them and raises a lot of apprehension.
Objective: develop the cultural adaptation and validation of a Portuguese version of the Self-confidence Scale. Method: descriptive and exploratory methodological research for the adaptation and validation of a measuring instrument. The translation, synthesis, back-translation, revision, pretest and semantic evaluation phases were accomplished. The evaluation involving 178 students from a Teaching Diploma Program in Nursing. The ethical principles were complied with. Results: the internal consistency analysis of the scale reveals good Alpha coefficients (0.92 for the global scale and superior to 0.83 for the different dimensions). The factor analysis presents a three-factor solution with rational meaning. Conclusion: The scale is easy to answer and understand. Based on the obtained results, it can be affirmed that the scale reveals good psychometric properties, with great potential to be used in future research.
