-(Floristic composition and structure of the vascular epiphyte component of the coastal plain forest of "Ilha do Mel", Paraná, Brazil). This study was carried out in a 3,000 m 2 area of coastal plain forest at "Ilha do Mel" (25°30' S; 48°23' W). The qualitative survey was carried out on the whole area, while the quantitative survey was done on 100 assorted trees, separated into two meters-high strata starting from the ground level. In each strata we recorded all of the occurring epiphytic species. The epiphytic importance index was calculated from the frequencies found for each stratum, for each host tree and for each species of host tree. In this survey, 77 species (16 of Pteridophyta, 53 of Liliopsida and 8 of Magnoliopsida) were found, of which 70 were sampled in the trees surveyed. The richest families were Orchidaceae, Bromeliaceae and Polypodiaceae, while Vriesea, Encyclia and Maxillaria were the richest genera. The area located in the Torres County (RS) presented the closest floristic similarity to the one used in this survey. From the quantitative point of view, Microgramma vaccinifolia, Codonanthe gracilis, Epidendrum latilabre and E. rigidum were the most important species. The sampled species were grouped into three categories, exclusive, preferential or indifferent, according to their occurrence in the different height intervals in relation to the ground. The frequency of epiphytic individuals in a host tree varied from 1 to 35, while the number of species varied from 1 to 21 (average of 14 ± 7.6 and 10 ± 4.6, respectively). The first (0-2, 2-4 and 4-6 m) strata were the richest in epiphytic species. For the host tree species, the highest frequencies of epiphytic individuals were found for Andira fraxinifolia and Ternstroemia brasiliensis, while Ocotea pulchella and Guapira opposita presented the largest number of species. Regarding to fidelity on host tree species, exclusive, preferential and generalist species were found, the last one included most of the species.
Palavras-chave -mata de brejo, inundação, floresta ciliar, fitossociologia, formação ribeirinha ABSTRACT -(Floristics and structure of the shrub and the tree-layer of a swamp forest in Jacaré-Pepira river, Southeastern Brazil). Swamp forests occur in permanently flooded small forest fragments in southeastern Brazil. We studied the floristic composition and community structure (plants with DBH≥5cm) of a swamp forest in Brotas municipality (48°06'W 22°16'S, 470m high), São Paulo State, Brazil. A total of 735 individuals, 32 families, and 51 woody species were recorded in the area. The most important species were Calophyllum brasiliense
-(Vascular epiphytes in Subtropical Ombrophilous Forest fragments, Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil). This study was carried out in 14 fragments of Araucaria Forest, with Cfb climate, precipitation 1,450 mm/year and annual average temperature 16.7 ºC. 96 native and ten exotic species were recorded in 21 families. Orchidaceae (35 species), Polypodiaceae (14 spp.) and Bromeliaceae (12 spp.) were the richest families. The number of native species in the fragments varied from ten to 64. Vascular epiphyte richness of Subtropical Ombrophilous Forest is lower than in tropical coastal rainforests but higher than in Brazilian seasonal forests. Climate type, forest coverage and degree and intensity of fragment disturbance are the most important aspects that interfere with the maintenance and expansion of epiphytic communities.Key words -floristic composition, subtropical forest, vascular epiphytes, urban forests RESUMO -(Epífitos vasculares em fragmentos de Floresta Ombrófila Mista, Curitiba, Paraná, Brasil).
Abstract Floristic composition of the Mixed Ombrophilous Montane Forest at Barigüi County Park, Parana,Brazil. The checklist (except epiphytes) of a subtropical ombrophilous montane forest at Barigüi Park, Curitiba County, listed 390 species, 226 genera and 99 families (pteridophytes, gymnosperms and angiosperms). The best-represented pteridophytes families were Dryopteridaceae (eight species) and Blechnaceae (six species) the angiosperms were Asteraceae (30 species), Solanaceae (25 species), Myrtaceae (25 species) and Poaceae (17 species). The gymnosperms were represented by two families only (Araucariaceae and Podocarpaceae) each one with one specie. We listed 141 trees, 129 herbs, 67 bushes, 50 vines and tree hemiepiphytes. Even thought being inside the city and showing significant anthropic influence the forest had a high floristic diversity.
Epiphytes are hyper‐diverse and one of the frequently undervalued life forms in plant surveys and biodiversity inventories. Epiphytes of the Atlantic Forest, one of the most endangered ecosystems in the world, have high endemism and radiated recently in the Pliocene. We aimed to (1) compile an extensive Atlantic Forest data set on vascular, non‐vascular plants (including hemiepiphytes), and lichen epiphyte species occurrence and abundance; (2) describe the epiphyte distribution in the Atlantic Forest, in order to indicate future sampling efforts. Our work presents the first epiphyte data set with information on abundance and occurrence of epiphyte phorophyte species. All data compiled here come from three main sources provided by the authors: published sources (comprising peer‐reviewed articles, books, and theses), unpublished data, and herbarium data. We compiled a data set composed of 2,095 species, from 89,270 holo/hemiepiphyte records, in the Atlantic Forest of Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay, recorded from 1824 to early 2018. Most of the records were from qualitative data (occurrence only, 88%), well distributed throughout the Atlantic Forest. For quantitative records, the most common sampling method was individual trees (71%), followed by plot sampling (19%), and transect sampling (10%). Angiosperms (81%) were the most frequently registered group, and Bromeliaceae and Orchidaceae were the families with the greatest number of records (27,272 and 21,945, respectively). Ferns and Lycophytes presented fewer records than Angiosperms, and Polypodiaceae were the most recorded family, and more concentrated in the Southern and Southeastern regions. Data on non‐vascular plants and lichens were scarce, with a few disjunct records concentrated in the Northeastern region of the Atlantic Forest. For all non‐vascular plant records, Lejeuneaceae, a family of liverworts, was the most recorded family. We hope that our effort to organize scattered epiphyte data help advance the knowledge of epiphyte ecology, as well as our understanding of macroecological and biogeographical patterns in the Atlantic Forest. No copyright restrictions are associated with the data set. Please cite this Ecology Data Paper if the data are used in publication and teaching events.
Paraná ABSTRACT -(Slructural analysis 01' two physiognomic types ar savanna ("cerrado") from southern Brazil). The Jaguariaiva region is located at Parana Statc. southcrn Brazil, and it keeps up the last remnants of savanna vegetation in the State. Thus. it should be considered a mark of the meridional distribution limit 01' this vegetation type in Brazil. The Parque Estadual do Cerrado (24°09' S; 50°18' WG). whose vegetation is not solely composed by savanna forms, was the object of this study that analysed the vegetation 01' two dominant savanna physiognomic types (cerrado senSl/ stricto and campo cerrado). Twenty quadrats 01' 200m' (20 X 10m) were sistematicaly established in each physiognomic unit. and ali the individuais having Basal Perimeter (BP) over 15 cm were sampled. The survey results indicaled a low number 01' woody species in hoth units (33 species in cerrado sel1Sl/ stricto and 18 in campo cerrrado). Most important species were virtually the same for both units, specially Byrsol1illla coccolobifolia. ACOSlllill1ll sllbelegalls, Couepia grandiflora and
