Resumo -O uso de água salina na irrigação é um desafio para os pesquisadores e produtores rurais. O êxito da utilização destas águas é dependente da tolerância das plantas cultivadas à salinidade. O experimento foi desenvolvido em casa de vegetação na UFERSA, Mossoró, RN, com o objetivo de avaliar o efeito da salinidade da água de irrigação sobre o desenvolvimento inicial e as características relacionados à biometria foliar de cultivares de abóboras e morangas. O experimento foi instalado no delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com três repetições, em esquema fatorial 4 x 2. Os tratamentos resultaram da combinação de quatro genótipos (Abóbora Xingó jacarezinho "casca grossa", Abóbora mini Paulista Isabela, Moranga Crioula pataka e Moranga Coroa) com dois níveis de salinidade da água de irrigação (0,5 e 3,5 dS m -1 ). As plantas foram coletadas aos 40 dias após a semeadura. Foram avaliadas as seguintes variáveis: comprimento do ramo principal, diâmetro do colo, número de folhas, área foliar, massa seca de folhas, massa seca de haste, massa seca da parte aérea, área foliar específica e razão de área foliar. O desenvolvimento inicial e a biometria foliar em plantas de abóboras e morangas são afetadas pelo aumento da salinidade da água de irrigação, sendo a resposta dependente da cultivar. Os genótipos Moranga Crioula pataka e Moranga Coroa apresentam maior tolerância à salinidade da água de irrigação. Palavras-chave -Cucurbitáceas. Irrigação. Estresse salino.Abstract -Irrigation with saline water is a challenge both for scientists and farmers. The success of utilizing such water depends on crop tolerance to salinity. A trial was carried out in a greenhouse at UFERSA, Mossoró, RN, Brazil, aiming at evaluating the effects of irrigation water salinity on initial growth and characteristics related to leaf anatomy in cultivars of pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata D.) and moranga (Cucurbita maxima D.). The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design with a 4 x 2 factorial scheme and three replications. Treatments resulted from the combinations of four genotypes (Pumpkin Xingó jacarezinho "casca grossa", Pumpkin mini Paulista Isabela, Moranga Crioula Pataka and Moranga Coroa) with two irrigation water salinity levels (0.5 and 3.5 dS m -1 ). Plants were collected 40 days after seeding. The following variables were analyzed: main stem length, root collar diameter, leaf number, leaf area, leaf dry mass of, stem dry mass, shoot dry mass, specific leaf area and leaf area ratio. Initial growth and leaf biometry in pumpkin and moranga plants were influenced by irrigation water salinity, which response was cultivar dependent. Genotypes Moranga Crioula pataka and Moranga Coroa showed larger tolerance to irrigation water salinity.

Resumo -O uso de água salina na produção de hortaliças é um dos principais desafios de pesquisadores e produtores rurais. O cultivo em substrato inerte pode ser uma alternativa, uma vez que o reduzido potencial matricial pode reduzir o efeito da salinidade sobre as plantas. O trabalho foi desenvolvido em ambiente protegido no Departamento de Ciências Ambientais e Tecnológicas da Universidade Federal Rural do Semi-Árido, Mossoró-RN, e objetivou-se avaliar o desempenho de duas cultivares de rúcula cultivadas em substrato e fertirrigadas com soluções nutritivas de diferentes salinidades. Foram avaliados dez tratamentos em esquema fatorial 2 x 5, sendo duas cultivares (C 1 -Cultivada e C 2 -Folha Larga) e cinco níveis de salinidade das soluções nutritivas (S 1 -1,2; S 2 -2,2; S 3 -3,2; S 4 -4,2 e S 5 -5,2 dS m -1 ), utilizando o delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com quatro repetições. Realizou-se a colheita aos 30 dias após a semeadura e avaliaram-se as seguintes variáveis: número de folhas, altura, área foliar, massa fresca total e massa seca total. A salinidade da solução nutritiva afeta negativamente o desenvolvimento das rúculas cultivadas em substrato, no entanto, o cultivo de rúcula em substrato pode ser realizado utilizando solução nutritiva de condutividade elétrica até 2,36 dS m -1 , sem perda na produção de massa fresca. A cultivar Folha Larga produziu mais massa fresca e seca total em relação a cultivar Cultivada, porém a cultivar Cultivada apresenta maior tolerância à salinidade que a cultivar Folha Larga. Cultivation in inert substrate can be an alternative, since the low matric potential can reduce the effect of salinity on plants. This study was conducted in a greenhouse at the Departamento de Ciências Ambientais e Tecnológicas da Universidade Federal Rural do Semi-Árido, Mossoró-RN, in order to evaluate the performance of two cultivars of rocket grown in substrate and fertilized with nutrient solutions of different salinities . Ten treatments were evaluated in a factorial 2 x 5, two cultivars (C 1 -Cultivada e C 2 -Folha Larga) and five salinity levels of the nutrient solutions (S 1 -1.2; S 2 -2.2; S 3 -3.2; S 4 -4.2 and S 5 -5.2 dS m -1 ), using a randomized design. Harvesting was performed at 30 days after sowing and evaluated the following variables: number of leaves, height, leaf area, total fresh and total dry mass. The salinity of the nutrient solution adversely affected the development of rocket, grown on a substrate, however, cultivation rocket substrate may be performed using electrical conductivity of the nutritive solution to 2.36 dS m -1 without loss in yield fresh pasta. The Folha Larga cultivar produced more total fresh and dry weight in relation to cultivar Cultivada, but to cultivar Cultivada has increased tolerance to salinity than cultivar Folha Larga.

Resumo -Objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar o efeito da salinidade na solução nutritiva sobre a produção de rúcula, cultivada em diferentes substratos. O ensaio foi desenvolvido em ambiente protegido do Departamento de Ciências Ambientais e Tecnológicas da Universidade Federal Rural do Semi-Árido em Mossoró-RN, e instalado em delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 5 x 3, com três repetições. Foram utilizados cinco níveis de salinidade na solução nutritiva, obtidos com ou sem uso de água residuária da piscicultura (S 1 -0,5; S 2 -2,0; S 3 -3,5; S 4 -5,0 e S 5 -6,5 dS m -1 ) e três substratos (SUB1-Mistura de fibra de coco + areia + casca de arroz (1:1:1); SUB2-Cambissolo e SUB3-SUB1 reutilizado de experimento anterior). Realizou-se a colheita da rúcula aos 35 dias após a semeadura e avaliou-se as seguintes variáveis: altura de plantas, número de folhas, área foliar, massa fresca e massa seca. A salinidade da solução nutritiva afetou negativamente o desenvolvimento da rúcula, apresentando efeito variado de acordo com o tipo de substrato utilizado. As plantas cultivadas no substrato formado pela mistura de fibra de coco + areia + casca de arroz natural (1:1:1) apresentaram maior tolerância à salinidade. O substrato formado pela mistura de fibra de coco + areia + casca de arroz pode ser recomendado para o cultivo de rúcula em recipientes, mas não pode ser reutilizado sem tratamento.Palavras-chave -Eruca sativa. Estresse Salino. Hidroponia.Abstract -This study evaluated the effects of salinity on the nutrient solution on the production of rocket, grown on different substrates. The test was developed in an environment protected by the Department of Environmental Sciences and Technology, Federal Rural University of the Semi-Arid in Mossoró-RN, housed in a completely randomized design in a factorial 3 x 5 with three replications. Five salinity levels of nutrient solution were used, obtained with or without the fish farming wastewater (S1-0.5, S2-2.0, S3-3.5, S4-5.0 and S5-6.5 dS m -1 ) and three substrates (SUB1-Mix coconut fibre + sand + rice husk (1:1:1), SUB2-Cambisol and SUB3-SUB1 reused in the previous experiment). Harvesting of rocket was performed at 35 days after sowing and evaluated the following variables: plant height, leaf number, leaf area, fresh weight, and dry weight. The salinity of the nutrient solution negatively affected the development of the rocket grown, having effect varying according to the type of substrate used. The plants grown on the substrate formed by the mixture of coconut fibre + sand + rice hulls (1:1:1) showed higher tolerance to salinity. The substrate formed by mixing coir + sand + rice husk can be recommended for growing rocket containers, but cannot be reused without treatment.

Salicylic acid attenuates salinity effects on the initial growth of M. suaveolens. Seed quality improves with SA priming. Salicylic acid priming is a promising technique to reduce salinity effects.

No entanto, o seu desempenho fisiológico pode ser comprometido por diversos fatores bióticos e abióticos, dentre estes, o estresse salino. Nesse sentido, a aplicação do ácido salicílico, fitohormônio de origem fenólica, torna-se uma estratégia promissora na busca de minimizar esses efeitos deletérios. Assim, o objetivou-se conhecer as respostas fisiológicas do mulungu irrigado com água salina associado a aplicação de ácido salicílico. O delineamento utilizado foi em blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial incompleto 5x5, gerados a partir da matriz Composto Central de Box com cinco níveis de condutividade elétrica da água de irrigação (0,5; 1,74; 4,75; 7,76 e 9,0 dS m-1) e cinco doses de ácido salicílico (0,0; 0,29; 1,0; 1,71 e 2,0 mM L-1), com quatro repetições. Foram avaliadas as trocas gasosas, fluorescência e índice de clorofila aos 60 dias após a irrigação com água salina. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de variância pelo teste F, nos casos de significância foi realizada análise de regressão polinomial. A salinidade da água de irrigação ocasiona efeitos deletérios nas trocas gasosas de Erythrina velutina Willd. However, its physiological performance can be compromised by several biotic and abiotic factors, among them, saline stress. That way, the application of salicylic acid, phytohormone of phenolic origin, becomes a promising strategy in the search to minimize these deleterious effects. Thus, the objective was to learn the physiological responses of mulungu irrigated with saline water associated with the application of salicylic acid. The design was a randomized complete block, in an incomplete factorial scheme, using the Box Central Composite (CCB) matrix with five levels of electrical conductivity of irrigation water (0.5; 1.74; 4.75; 7.76 and 9.0 dS m-1), and five salicylic acid doses (0.0, 0.29, 1.0, 1.71 and 2.0 mM), with four replicates. Gas exchange, fluorescence and chlorophyll indices were evaluated 60 days after irrigation with saline water. Data were submitted to analysis of variance by the F test, in cases of significance polynomial regression analysis was performed. The salinity of irrigation water causes deleterious effects on the gas exchange of Erythrina velutina Willd. The chlorophyll indices were positively affected by saline levels applied and the initial fluorescence of the plants was attenuated by the application of salicylic acid.   Keywords: Erythrina velutina Willd, caatinga, salinity, gas exchange

Mesosphaerum suaveolens (L.) Kuntze is a species of high phytotherapeutic and aromatic potential and quite widespread in Northeastern Brazil. However, the scarcity of good quality water and the high content of salts contained in the soil and irrigation water of the semi-arid region can compromise the crop growth and yield . Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the effect of seed treatment with salicylic acid on the growth rates and the fluorescence indexes of chlorophyll 'a' from M. suaveolens plants irrigated with saline waters. The experiment was conducted in a randomized complete block design with a 5 x 5 incomplete factorial design, with five electrical conductivities of the irrigation water (ECw = 0.5, 1.45, 5.00, 8.55 and 10.0 dS m -1 ) and five salicylic acid doses (SA = 0.0, 0.29, 1.0, 1.71 and 2.0 mM L -1 ), generated by the Box Central Compound matrix. The evaluated variables were the absolute and relative growth rates for stem height and diameter and the indexes of fluorescence and quantum yield of photosystem II. The salinity of the water reduces the growth and the fluorescence indexes of the plants. The seeds treatment with salicylic acid at the doses of 1.99 and 0.69 mM L -1 attenuates the damaging effect from saline stress on the absolute and relative growths for the stem diameter.
