Job crafting is proactive bottom-up job redesign to optimize person-job fi t. A job crafting intervention is any training or method designed to stimulate or develop job crafting behaviors in employees. This paper systematically reviews research examining the eff ects of job crafting interventions and identifi es their tendencies and gaps. A search was conducted in PsycINFO, Academic Search Premier, Web of Science, and SciELO using the key terms job crafting and interventions in databases available from 2007 to September 2017. We identifi ed eight studies that met our inclusion criteria. The analysis of these articles revealed that the design of seven intervention studies was based on theoretical assumptions derived from job demands-resources theory and used a quasi-experimental design. Job crafting interventions increased diff erent types of job crafting behaviors, well-being variables, and job performance. Inconsistencies regarding signifi cant eff ects in job resources and work engagement across studies are discussed. Recommendations for future research on job crafting interventions in organizations are presented.
In this study we reviewed the international scientific literature on the construct, with a single descriptor "job crafting", from 2000 to May 2015, in PsycINFO and EBSCO databases. We analyzed 34 articles following the criteria: year of publication, publishing journal, authorship, study type, method and instruments used. We tracked an increase of scientific publications, specifically quantitative empirical studies, driven by the development of measures. This diffusion of the publications was found in different journals, led by the Netherlands and the United States. We argue for the adaptation of Job crafting measures in Brazil.
Employees’ perceived opportunities to craft (POCs) influence actual job crafting behavior, which may have consequences for their well-being and work performance. This study aimed to validate the perceived opportunities to craft scale (POCS) in the Brazilian context. We collected data from Brazilian employees (N = 1451) in two separate samples. The factor structure, reliability, and convergent validity of the POCS were tested using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), multigroup confirmatory factor analysis (MGCFA), and external variables. The results indicated that the POCS-Brazilian version (with seven-point and five-point Likert scale) replicated the unidimensional structure of the original instrument. POCs showed significant positive and moderate correlations with occupational self-efficacy, work engagement and job crafting, and negative associations with workaholism. Both POCS-Brazilian versions were reliable according to three types of reliability indexes and also showed discriminant and convergent validity evidence.
Palavras-chave: redesenho do trabalho; avaliação psicológica; validade; precisão; comportamento organizacional. ABSTRACT -Job Crafting: Conceptualization and Scientific Quality of the MeasuresJob crafting is a process of proactive individual actions to redesign work to match individual values, competencies and motivations, or to optimize resources and demands with personal needs and resources. We verified the scientific qualities of the construct measures in four databases between 2001 and August 2017. We identified two different ways of conceptualizing the construct, four different instruments for its evaluation, and seven works to adapt and validate for other contexts. We analyzed 11 selected instruments in terms of validity evidence and accuracy. The most used forms were those with validity evidence based on the internal structure, and those that related external variables and accuracy through Cronbach's alpha. Two measures were validated for Brazil, enabling research on work redesign actions, and we concluded that job crafting is measurable in validity and accuracy.
Purpose: To investigate the mediating role of flow at work on the relations of job crafting (task crafting, cognitive crafting and relational crafting) with positive mental health dimensions (emotional well-being, psychological well-being and social well-being). Originality/value: Job crafting actions have been identified as antecedents of the levels of well-being at work. The present study contributed to the literature examining the relationships between job crafting, flow at work, and positive mental health, which have not yet been investigated in previous empirical studies. Design/methodology/approach: The quantitative approach was used through an online questionnaire composed of a sociodemographic questionnaire and three scales. The sample consisted of 386 professionals from different Brazilian states, of which 58% were female, with a mean age of 44 years (SD = 12 years). The data were analyzed through structural equations. Findings: The results of the analysis of structural equations showed that relational crafting had a direct impact on positive mental health. The relations of cognitive crafting with positive mental health were totally mediated by flow at work. We concluded that job crafting, primarily cognitive crafting, influence occupational and general well-being.
