Although the mission statement has been long considered a vital strategic management tool, its impact on financial performance has not been firmly affirmed. Hence, this paper investigates the effect of mission statement drivers on the mission statement contents and firms’ financial performance. Furthermore, it examines the moderating role of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in these relationships. Using the structural equation modelling method, based on a sample of 298 manufacturing SMEs operate in food production in Egypt, the study identified four main results. First, the contents of the mission statement can be seen as consequences of mission statement drivers. Second, the effect of the mission statement as a set of drivers on financial performance cannot be emphasized. Third, Trible Bottom Line (TBL) mission achieves its ends in terms of financial success. Finally, with respect to the African context particularly Egypt, the financial success can be enhanced by the mission statement through the firm’s commitment to CSR practices.
This study investigated the mediating role of Dynamic Capabilities (DC) in the relationship between Entrepreneurial Orientation (EO) and Business Process Performance (BPP). Moreover, it investigates the moderating role of strategy type in the EO-DC-BPP relationship. A quantitative paradigm was followed using SEM-PLS methodology to analyze data from 179 SMEs operating in food production in Egypt. The study found a strong and positive mediating effect of DC on the EO-BPP relationship.
This article examines the direct and indirect (through strategic decision-making processes) impacts of knowledge visualisation on strategic decision quality and strategic decision commitment in small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Structural equation modelling (SEM) methodology was used to test the research model based on data collected from 209 senior managers of manufacturing SMEs that operate in food production in Egypt. The results suggest that knowledge visualisation has a significant positive effect on strategic decision-making processes, strategic decision quality and strategic decision commitment. In addition, strategic decision quality is dependent on strategic decision-making processes, but decision-making processes do not significantly impact strategic decision commitment. Knowledge visualisation through strategic decision-making processes could help organisations in making high-quality decisions. The research adds to the theories of knowledge-based view (KBV) and rational decision-making by demonstrating that knowledge visualisation could be a catalyst for effective strategic decision-making.
Purpose
Although environmental pressures have been covered in great detail in prior literature as the drivers of eco-innovation, there remains inconsistency in the empirical results concerning the effects of these pressures on eco-innovation behaviour. Hence, this paper aims to investigate the impact of environmental pressures, namely, regulatory pressure, green demand and competitive pressure, on eco-innovation among manufacturing SMEs. Moreover, it examined the mediating role of environmental capabilities on the environmental pressure–eco-innovation relationship.
Design/methodology/approach
Quantitative data were collected using an online self-reported questionnaire survey to test the hypothesised model. A total of 183 valid questionnaires were collected from managers and owners of manufacturing SMEs in Egypt.
Findings
The results of the data analysis using the Smart-PLS software package revealed that among environmental pressures, only green demand had a direct effect on eco-innovation. In addition, environmental capabilities only mediated the effect of competitive pressure on eco-innovation.
Originality/value
This study has been one of the few addressing the issue of how the drivers of eco-innovation interact. It has also provided the managers and owners of SMEs and policymakers with practical implications.
The Coronavirus pandemic has created significant challenges for higher education institutions and rushed them toward the utilization of IT resources to practice online learning as a replacement of the face-to-face classrooms. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of the online learning system (OLS) in driving student engagement and generating positive performance impact during the Coronavirus outbreak. A conceptual model is proposed by adopting the D&M model to examine the impact of the OLS overall quality dimensions (system quality, information quality, and service quality) on student's performance impact and to study the mediating effect of actual use, student satisfaction, and student engagement on this relationship. By depending on a sample of 781stuents at both ungraduated and postgraduate levels enrolled at public universities in Egypt, using a self-administrated online survey to collect the data and SEM-PLS to analyze the data. The results indicate the significance of OLS quality dimensions direct effect on actual use, student satisfaction, student engagement and performance impact. Also, student engagement has the highest direct effect on performance impact and indirectly it enhances the relationship between overall quality dimensions and performance impact. These findings suggest several theoretical and managerial implications which specifically highlight the importance of overall quality and student engagement as determinants of OLS effectiveness.
