Lipases are enzymes that hydrolyse lipids into triglycerides and fatty acids. Due to the unique environment around their active site, they are capable of a wide range of racemic resolutions. This review article deals with the role of lipases in racemic resolutions with speci®c references to the stereospeci®city, role of solvents and enzyme structure.
Protoplast fusion is a non-speci®c recombination technique used for transfer of cytosolic organelles including genetic material. The process involves cell wall breakdown, regeneration of protoplasts, chemofusion and electrofusion. This review article discusses all the stages involved in fusion of protoplasts and some of the applications of protoplast fusion technique in fungal systems.
