Captopril is an antihypertensive agent that inhibits the angiotensin-converting enzyme of the renin±angiotensin system. Chiral intermediates are used in the synthesis of the drug. These intermediates are obtained by resolution of racemic compounds or by chemical, biocatalytic methods and or by asymmetric synthesis by biocatalytic process. This article reviews the various chemical and biochemical processes involved in the synthesis of the chiral drug, including the pharmacological action of captopril.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
