Background To optimize the preventive measures of malaria, it is important to synchronize the efforts with the behavior of local Anopheles species. However, the data of Anopheles species and their behavior in Indonesia is still lacking. Method Explorative research was conducted from April to September 2016 in Southern Minahasa district. The Anopheles mosquito was baited by using animal and human (indoor or outdoor) from 18.00 to 06.00 hours. Then, the species were identified and Man Biting Rate (MBR) and Man/Animal Biting per Hour (MBPH) were calculated followed by statistical analysis by using SPSS 17. Result The data showed that the dominant species in Southern Minahasa were An. barbirostris, An. kochi, and An. vagus. An. vagus was found to be zoophilic and An. barbirostris was showing strict anthropophilic characteristics. Meanwhile, An. kochi feeds on both human and animal. The MBR of An. kochi was found to be the highest (P < 0.005), but its MBPH only significantly exceeded that of An. vagus. All species tend to be more active during the early evening. Conclusion An. barbirostris, An. kochi, and An. vagus were the dominant Anopheles species in Southern Minahasa. Further research is needed to determine the Plasmodium infestation rate of these species.
Malaria is a re-emerging disease (can spread back by the large number) and still being a problem in Indonesia. This disease is caused by Plasmodium. This study aimed to analyze the risk factors towards malaria in This was an analytical observational study with a case control approach (retrospectively) in the working area of Mayumba Community Health Center, Morowali, Middle Celebes Province. Samples were 94 respondents and the ratio of cases and controls was 1:1, therefore, there were a total of 188 peoples obtained by using the simple random sampling. From the results it can be concluded that there was a significant relationship between behavioral factors (knowledge, attitude, be out of the house at night, and hanging clothes in the house) and the incidence of malaria in Mayumba Health Center. It is advisable to the District Health Department and Community Health Center Morowali Mayumba to conduct a survey aiming to determine entomology vector bionomic which will be useful against malaria. Keywords: behavior, malaria incidenceAbstrak: Malaria merupakan penyakit yang re-emerging (menular kembali secara massal) dan masih merupakan masalah di Indonesia. Introduction: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a disease that has caused death across the world, including in Indonesia. CAD is a multifactorial disease. Many studies have been conducted to examine the causes of CAD. Based on previous research, the risk factors questioned are fixed and nonfixed risk factors. Fixed risk factors include age, gender and family history. Nonfixed risk factors include smoking habits, blood cholesterol levels, behavioral types, socioeconomic status and cultural factors, among others. The purpose of this study is to find a structural model of the influence of Mapalus culture and health behavior on the incidence of CAD in the Minahasa ethnic group in North Sulawesi Province. Method: This research is a case-control research type that uses 220 respondents (110 case and 110 control respondents). The variables studied were Mapalus culture (ethos and principles) and health behavior (smoking habits, knowledge of CAD, healthy behavior and sickness behavior) as independent variables and CAD incidence as the dependent variable. Data analysis used pathway analysis by employing GeSCA software. Result: The results of this study indicate that Mapalus culture and health behavior influence the occurrence of CAD. The influence of Mapalus culture will be stronger/greater if it interacts with health behavior. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, control must be exercised on smoking habits, increasing knowledge about CAD and having a healthy lifestyle.
