[1] Deforestation and climate change have the capacity to alter rainfall regimes, water availability, and surface-atmosphere flux of water and energy of tropical forests, especially in ecotonal, semi-deciduous tropical forests of the southern Amazon Basin, which have experienced rapid regional warming and deforestation over the last three decades. To reduce uncertainty regarding current and future energy and water flux, micrometeorological measurements of latent (Q e ) and sensible heat flux (Q h ) and canopy conductance (G c ) were combined with measurements of sap flux density (F d ) and maximum leaf conductance (g smax ) to characterize the seasonal controls on mass (H 2 O) and energy exchange of an ecotonal, semi-deciduous forest in northern Mato Grosso, Brazil over the 2005-2006 annual cycle. Average diel patterns and daily rates of energy flux and conductance declined during the dry season; however, the decline in F d and Q e was smaller and/or more gradual than G c and g smax . Weekly averages of transpiration calculated from sap flow measurements during the dry-wet season transition period were positively correlated (r 2 = 0.47; p < 0.05; n = 11) with estimates of leaf area index (LAI) derived from the Modis-Aqua satellite platform while estimates of evapotranspiration ET derived from eddy covariance were not, presumably because these estimates also include an evaporation component. Overall, our results suggest that access to deep water reserves can support high rates of F d and Q e during the dry season, but because of high evaporative demand, declines in plant water potential lead to a corresponding decline in G c . Furthermore, seasonal variations in LAI, that are likely to be controlled in part by plant water status and phenology, constrain tree and stand transpiration. Thus the consistency of Q e over the annual cycle appears to be the result of trade-offs between water availability (rainfall, soil moisture, water potential), canopy structural properties (LAI), and meteorological conditions including vapor pressure deficit and net radiation.

RESUMONo presente trabalho fez-se uma análise do comportamento sazonal e do ciclo diário de parâmetros micrometeorológicos e dos fluxos de energia, para áreas de floresta Amazônica (Rebio Jaru) e de Transição Amazônia-Cerrado (Fazenda Maracaí). As medidas foram realizadas por equipamentos instalados em torres micrometeorológicas do projeto LBA (Large Scale Biosphere-Atmosphere Experiment in Amazonia), uma localizada no município de Ji-Paraná, RO (área de floresta Amazônica) e outra localizada no município de Sinop, MT (área de floresta de Transição). A análise dos resultados obtidos indica a existência de uma sazonalidade bem definida, com uma estação seca e outra úmida em ambas as localidades, o que é refletido no comportamento da precipitação, umidade do ar e temperatura e, consequentemente, nos fluxos de calor latente (λE) e calor sensível (H). No balanço de energia, as médias diárias demonstraram comportamento diferenciado de λE, nas diferentes áreas, indicando maior facilidade de adaptação da floresta Amazônica ao período de seca. A partição Rn/λE apresentou comportamento sazonal semelhante para ambas as áreas, com maiores valores durante a estação úmida, que decrescem na estação seca. ABSTRACT: NET RADIATION PARTITION IN AMAZONIAN FOREST AND TRANSITIONAL AMAZONIA-CERRADO FOREST AREASIn this work the seasonal behavior and the daily cycle of micrometeorological parameters and energy fluxes, in Amazonian forest (Rebio Jaru) and Transitional Amazonia-Cerrado forest (Maracaí Farm) is analyzed. The measurements were done by equipments installed in the micrometeorological towers of LBA project (Large Scale Biosphere-Atmosphere Experiment in Amazonia), one located near from Ji-Paraná city, RO (area of Amazonian forest) and other located near from Sinop city, MT (area of Transitional forest). The results analysis indicate the existence of a well defined seasonality with dry and wet seasons in both localities, which is reflected in the behavior of the precipitation, air humidity and temperature and, consequently, in the latent heat (λE) and sensible heat (H) fluxes. In the energy balance, the daily means show a different behavior of λE, in both areas, indicating more adaptation capacity of Amazonia forest to the dry period. The Rn/λE partition values showed similar seasonal behavior for both areas, with larger values for the wet season, decreasing for the dry season.

RESUMOA expressiva taxa de desmatamento na região amazônica tem se tornado uma preocupação mundial. Este processo consiste, substancialmente, na conversão de sistemas florestais em sistemas agropecuários. Este novo ecossistema requer estudos que elucidem quanto ao seu funcionamento buscando o entendimento de como a referida região interage com a atmosfera. Com o intento de investigar o comportamento de componentes do balanço de energia em uma área de pastagem foi realizado um estudo na Fazenda Nossa Senhora, no município de Ouro Preto do Oeste, Rondônia, buscando-se analisar os padrões da radiação líquida e dos fluxos de calor latente, sensível e no solo, nos períodos: úmido, úmido-seco, seco e seco-úmido, nos anos de 2000 a 2005. As medidas dos fluxos de calor latente e sensível foram realizadas utilizando-se o método de covariância de vórtices turbulentos. Os resultados dessas análises evidenciaram que o particionamento de energia em uma área de pastagem nos períodos úmido, úmido-seco, seco e seco-úmido foram, respectivamente, de 77,8; 69,6; 50,6 e 75,2% para o fluxo de calor latente e 22,5; 31,2; 46,7 e 24,7% para o fluxo de calor sensível, indicando uma vulnerabilidade maior da pastagem às alterações sazonais. This process consists substantially in the conversion from forest to agricultural systems, which is the activity that drives the local economy. This new ecosystem formed requires studies that elucidate its operation, seeking to understand how this region interacts with the atmosphere. To investigate the behavior of energy balance components in a grassland ecosystem, a study was conducted at Fazenda Nossa Senhora (FNS), in Ouro Preto do Oeste, Rondônia. This study examined net radiation and sensible, latent and soil heat fluxes patterns, in the periods: wet, wet-dry, dry and dry-wet from 2000 to 2005. Measurements of sensible and latent heat fluxes were performed using the eddy covariance method. The results of these analyses showed that the partitioning of energy in the grassland were 77.8, 69.6, 50.6 and 75.2%, respectively in the wet, wet-dry, dry and dry-wet periods, for the latent heat flux and 22.5, 31.2, 46.7 and 24.7% for the sensible heat flux, indicating a higher vulnerability of grassland to seasonal changes.

The SITE® model was originally developed to study the response of tropical ecosystems to varying environmental conditions. The present study evaluated the applicability of the SITE model to simulation of energy fluxes in a tropical semi-deciduous forest of the southern Amazon Basin. The model was simulated with data representing the wet and dry season, and was calibrated according to each season. The output data of the calibrated model [net radiation (Rn), latent heat flux (LE) and sensible heat flux (H)] were compared with data observed in the field for validation. Considering changes in parameter calibration for a time step simulation of 30 min, the magnitude of variation in temporal flux was satisfactory when compared to observation field data. There was a tendency to underestimate and overestimate LE and H, respectively. Of all the calibration parameters, the soil moisture parameter presented the highest variation over the seasons, thus influencing SITE model performance.

A urbanização insustentável acarreta números impactos ambientais, o que acaba repercutindo na depleção da qualidade ambiental, particularmente nas águas superficiais urbanas. Estudos relacionando a densidade demográfica à qualidade da água ainda são escassos. Diante disso, o objetivo da presente pesquisa foi avaliar a qualidade das águas urbanas em Ji-Paraná (RO) e identificar as relações existentes entre a densidade demográfica dasimétrica e o Índice de Qualidade das Águas (IQA) em seus igarapés urbanos. Nas etapas metodológicas foram selecionados 10 diferentes postos de amostragem em setores censitários de distintas classes de densidade demográfica, resultantes da interpolação de dados orbitais e censitários, sendo que para cada posto foram aferidos os IQA nos períodos chuvoso, vazante, estiagem e enchente, perfazendo 8 campanhas de coletas. As amostras foram caracterizadas por meio de análises físicas, químicas e microbiológicas consoantes com normas nacionais (NBR/ABNT) e internacionais (SM/APHA). Por fim, os valores de densidade demográfica dasimétrica foram correlacionados estatisticamente com os de IQA, por meio da correlação de Pearson. De acordo com os resultados obtidos, a área de estudo possui uma amplitude na densidade demográfica dasimétrica de 6976 habitante/km²; foi evidenciada baixa qualidade dos igarapés urbanos, grande parte dos postos apresentaram IQA na classe péssima e ruim nos quatro períodos, sobretudo nos de enchente e chuvoso, e o período vazante apresentou maior sensibilidade de correlação, com valor de ρ=-0,75, enquanto os demais períodos apresentaram fraca correlação negativa. As correlações negativas da densidade demográfica dasimétrica com o IQA indicam uma relação de depleção na qualidade da água superficial urbana em decorrência do aumento da concentração populacional, conquanto sejam diversos e complexos os aspectos envolvidos nesse vínculo.

A remoção de uma cobertura florestal e sua substituição por outras formas de uso do solo tem sido uma constante no norte do estado de Mato Grosso podendo alterar os ciclos hidrológicos e biogeoquímicos dos ecossistemas. Neste contexto, o presente trabalho visou identificar a variação do fósforo e nitrogênio das águas do lençol freático em áreas de Floresta de Transição madura e intacta (Floresta Intacta), Floresta de Transição Manejada (Floresta Manejada) e Pastagem localizadas no norte de Mato Grosso. Foram realizadas mensalmente medidas do nível do lençol freático, de coletas de amostras de água para análises físico-químicas e medições de precipitação e temperatura do ar, no período de janeiro/2005 a novembro/2006. Verificou-se uma sazonalidade na precipitação e na temperatura do ar. No período de estiagem as águas do lençol freático apresentaram maiores teores de nitrogênio e de fósforo total nas três áreas em estudo. Os maiores valores de nitrogênio e fósforo foram detectados nos ecossistemas florestais (Florestas Intacta e Manejada) como indicativo da função da cobertura vegetal na ciclagem dos nutrientes. Macro-nutrients in the water sheet in Mature Forest, Management Forest and Pasture in the north of Mato Grosso ABSTRACTForest removal for other land uses has been a constant in the north of Mato Grosso and can alter the hydrological and biochemical cycles. In this context, the present work aims to identify the variation of phosphorus and nitrogen in the water sheet in areas of Mature Forest, Management Forest and Pasture in the north of Mato Grosso. The water level was measured monthly and water samples for analysis were collected monthly from January/2005 to November/2006. We verified the precipitation and the air temperature seasonality, and in the dry season the quality of the water sheet presented greater values of total phosphorus and total Kjeldhal nitrogen in the studied areas. The phosphorus and nitrogen presented greater values in forest ecosystems (Forest and Management Forest) as indicative of the function of the vegetal covering in the nutrient cycle.
