Forest exploitation especially for the material wood/timber has giving influence to condition environment and the society who lives around the forest. Therefore in this time, the research for non timber forest products is being an interest fot the researchers from many sciences. There is not than 100 plants species useful of non timber producer had known from the research which conducted in PT. Wira Karya Sakti conservation forest area in Sungai Tapa-Jambi. Two of them (Alstonia scholaris R.Br. and Scorodocarpus borneensis (Baillon) Jack) are included in a list of endangered species plants in Indonesia.
The study was conducted in Batulanteh District, Sumbawa regency, Sumbawa Island, West Nusa Tenggara, which is aimed to reveal the knowledge of the Samawa people on the diversity of useful plants and their uses. It documented 111 plant species, in which 47.5% are used as traditional medicine. Also, the sudy found that wild honey bees (Apis dorsata) is having a conspicuous association with plants in producing natural honey, which plays an important role in the local economy. The interviews with selected respondents showed that the Samawa people totally understand the importance of forest conservation in relation with the existence of the honey bees’ life.
Wawonii ethnic represent the majority groups and ethnic origin dwelling Wawoniiisland, Southeast Sulawesi. In their traditional life, this ethnic has own mannersand customs for managing natural resources. Local knowledge research’s aboutenvironment ecosystem of owned Wawonii ethnic have been carried out since2003 to 2006. Several countryside of Wawolaa, Lansilowo, Lampeapi, Bobolioand Dompo-dompo Jaya have been visited during this study. At least 6 kindsenvironment sets have been identified, manely “kura eya” primary forest, “lalibata” secondary forest, “anantalu” brushes, “laro wita” field, “laro le” grasslandand “kapo” village. Although there local knowledge have a lot of change, howeverit still remain their wisdom and become the guidance in their daily activities.
