Abstract:The study was conducted to compare the growth and production performance of monosex and natural XY male tilapia of Oreochromis niloticus in Bismillah Agro production hatchery of Noakhali Sadar in Noakhali district, Bangladesh from September to November, 2014. The length, weight, average FCR value, Average SGR value, Daily weight gain, survival rate of fish were observed. Relationship between growth and physicochemical parameter of water were also investigated for monosex and XY male tilapia. The finding of the study reveals that growth performance of naturally collected XY male tilapia is close to monosex tilapia. The SGR value was found better in monosex than XY male tilapia. . Among them, survival rate was found 95.06% in case of monosex whereas it was 93.67% for XY male. At the end of the experiment, average weight of monosex (179.5±1.32g) was found higher than XY male tilapia (167.8±1.10g). Average length of monosex (20.1±0.25cm) was also found higher than XY male tilapia (19.5±0.20 cm). Similarly, the average FCR value for monosex (1.39±0.185) was observed higher than XY male tilapia (1.71±0.233). Average SGR value for monosex (2.49±1.43) was also higher than the XY male tilapia (1.88±1.44). Daily weight gain of monosex (1.66±0.66g) was also experimental higher than XY male tilapia (1.53±0.611g) species. These findings will encourage the fish farmers to culture all XY male tilapia with minimal cost. Thus, the consumer and fish will be free from the risk of hormonal induction and farmers can able to maintain the sustainable production of tilapia and also their dependency on hatchery produced seed will be reduced.

The present study was conducted over 4 months during 1st September to 30th December 2005 to observe the effects of stocking density on growth and survival of Thai Sharpunti, Barbodes gonionotus in 3 earthen ponds of size of 2.8    decimal each. The stocking densities of 80, 100 and 120 fish/decimal were treated as T1, T2 and T3, respectively. All    the treatments were subjected to the same feeding regime and fertilization. The range of water quality parameters    such as temperature were 30.31, 30.16 and 29.65 0C, transparency were 29.94, 37.63, and 40.02 cm, water depth    were 143.91, 148.67 and 151.54 cm, dissolved oxygen were 4.72, 4.35 and 4.24 mg/l, pH were 7.71, 7.49 and 7.31,    plankton biomass were 43.05 x 105 /l, 37.97 x 105 /l and 36.05 x 105 /l in T1, T2 and T3, respectively. Among the    growth parameters, mean weight gain were 48.87 g, 41.43 g and 34.09 g, percent weight gain were 698.21%,    591.93% and 487%, the average daily gains were 1.65, 1.54 and 1.20 g, the specific growth rate were 1.73, 1.61 and    1.47%, in T1, T2 and T3 respectively. The gross total productions of Barbonymus gonionotus were 1041.96, 1085.71    and 1019.64 kg/ha/120 days while the net productions were 911.60, 929.46 and 846.43 kg/ha/120 days in T1, T2 and    T3, respectively. Sperm and egg quality of catla Catla catla and rui Labeo rohita were investigated in Brahmaputra and Sarker Hatchery, Mymensingh, Bangladesh over two spawning seasons as early (March to May) and peak (June to August ). In both hatcheries, catla and rui produced nearly 90% motile sperms as well as higher sperm concentration (catla: Brahmaputra hatchery. 2533.33 ± 119.65 million mL-1 and Sarker hatchery, 2658.89 ± 76.55 million mL-1; rui: Brahmaputra hatchery, 2856.67 ± 67.57 million mL-1 and Sarker hatchery, 2811.67 ± 51.90 million mL'1), seminal pH (catla: Brahmaputra hatchery, 7.41 ± 0.06 and Sarker hatchery, 7.41 ± 0.06; rui: Brahmaputra hatchery, 7.39 ± 0.05 and Sarker hatchery, 7.35 ± 0.05) and fertilizability in catla were 88% and In rui 92% in both hatcheries in the peak season. The occurrence of opaque eggs in catla and rui was 12% and 8% in both hatcheries in the peak season, respectively. The complete mitochondrial genome of spotted snakehead fish, Channa punctata (Bloch 1793) was determined by MiSeq platform. The genome was 16,409 bp in length, in which canonical 13 proteincoding genes, 22 tRNAs, 2 rRNAs, and a control region (D-Loop) were encoded. Relatively higher overall A þ T contents (53.70%) was identified compared with G þ C contents (46.30%). Among 13 protein-coding genes, only one unusual start condon (GTG) was identified in COX1, whereas six genes including COXII, COXIII, NAD2, NAD3, NAD4, and Cytb were ended with the incomplete stop codons (TA-/T-). Based on the currently identified mitogenomes of Channa fish species, C. punctata was most closely related to Channa gachua with 82% sequence identity.

The complete mitochondrial genome in Mola carplet, Amblypharyngodon mola (Hamilton, 1822) was determined by MiSeq platform for the first time in the genus. The mitogenome of A. mola was circular and 16,545 bp in length, which harbours a canonical 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNAs, 2 rRNAs, and a control region (D-Loop). Twenty eight genes were encoded on the H strand and the other 9 genes were on the L strand. The incomplete stop codon (TA-/T-) was identified in seven genes (COX2, COX3, ND2, ND3, ND4, ATP6, and Cytb). The mitogenome of A. mola showed highest (82%) sequence identity with Rasbora vaterifloris (GenBank No. NC015531), which is endemic to Sri Lanka.

6Present study was conducted to determine and quantify the occurrence of various types of microorganisms in raw and final products of Chapila (Gudusia chapra) and Tengra (Mystus vittatus) and also to enhance food safety with a view of promoting international trade. Raw and frozen Chapila and Tengra samleswere collected and the microbial analysis was conducted. In case of raw product of Chapila, the aerobic plate count (APC) was 2.6×10 5 cfu/g, whereas in frozen products, the load was estimated to be 4.0×10 5 cfu/g. Furthermore, while APC of raw Tengra was 2×10 5 cfu/g, the APCs were 3.3×10 6 cfu/g in frozen product. Total coliform in raw and frozen Chapila was found to be 36.00 ± 2.3 MPN/g and 7.2 ± 1.01 MPN/g, respectively and 27.00 ± 5.57 MPN/g and 9.4 ± 3.75 MPN/g, respectively were found in raw and frozen Tengra samples. Moreover, Fecal coliform in frozen samples of Chapila and Tengra was found within the acceptable limit (<3 MPN/g). Salmonella spp. and Vibrio cholerae were not detected in any of the raw and frozen Chapila and Tengra samples. Overall, the present study reveals that tested frozen fish samples from the fish processing plant were good enough for export and of better quality than raw fish samples from the microbiological point of view.
