Palavras-chave: bovino, búfalo, cana-de-açúcar, degradabilidade, protozoários do rúmen Rumen Ciliate Protozoa and Degradability in Buffalo and Zebu Cattle Fed a SugarCane Based Diet ABSTRACT -Three rumen cannulated buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis) and three zebu cattle (Bos indicus) were fed chopped sugar cane ad libitum and 3 kg of concentrate/animal/day during 13 weeks. After two weeks of adaptation, samples of rumen contents were weekly collected at two times: just before feeding and 40 minutes after feeding to measure the concentration and composition of ruminal fauna. Ruminal contents were mixed and re inoculated among animals from the same species after five weeks of trial starting. During the last week, degradability of DM, CP, and NDF of sugar cane and DM and CP of the concentrate were determined by in situ technique. The average concentration of total protozoa was higher in cattle (4.85 ×10 5 /mL) than in buffaloes (3.82 × 10 5 /mL). Percent generic composition for Entodinium and subfamily Diplodiniinae was 79.2 and 6.2% in cattle and 32.0 and 54.9% in buffaloes, respectively. There was no interaction between animal species and sampling time. Holotrich concentration increased after 40 minutes of feeding. No difference was observed between buffaloes and cattle in effective degradability of the studied nutrients with differences being observed in degradation kinetic. The buffaloes had lower concentration of rumen protozoa, hi...
Palavras-chave: cana-de-açúcar, ovinos, protozoários do rúmen Effects of Diets with Increasing Levels of Sugar Cane in Substitution of Corn Silage on Rumen Population Ciliate Protozoa in SheepABSTRACT -Eight rumen fistulated rams were delineated in two Latin Squares in four periods of 35 days each and four treatments consisted of increasing levels of sugar cane (SC) in substitution to the corn silage (CS): A) 100% CS, B) 67% CS and 33% SC, C) 33% CS and 67% SC and D) 100% SC, to evaluate the population of ciliate protozoa in the rumen. The total concentrations of rumen ciliate protozoa and of Entodinium decreased and the values of pH of the ruminal content increased linearly as dietary sugar cane levels increased. No differences between treatments were observed for the rumen volume and the rumen liquid turnover rate.
Palavras-chave: bovino, búfalo, fibra, protozoários no rúmen, ruminantes Effects of Diets with Different Levels of Neutral Detergent Fiber and the Porous Size of Nylon Bags Incubated in the Rumen on Ruminal Fauna in Buffaloes and CattleABSTRACT -Four buffaloes and four cattle, rumen fistulated, were utilized in two Latin Square (4 x 4) to evaluate the effects of rations with increasing levels of NDF (54, 60, 66 and 72% in DM) and two porous size of the nylon bags (53 and 100 mm) on the population of ciliate protozoa in rumen content and inside the nylon bags suspended in the rumen for several times. There was no difference in the several genus and in the total of protozoa in the samples of the nylon bags between 53 and 100 mm. The concentration of Entodinium and total of protozoa in the rumen content increased in the level of 66% of NDF with drop accentuated in 72% in the buffaloes, while in the cattle there was significant decrease with the increase of NDF in the ration. Rumen protozoa concentration of Diplodiniinae subfamily, Epidinium and Dasytricha were different for buffaloes and cattle inside the rumen incubated nylon bags with 53 mm pore size. Diplodiniinae concentration in the rumen content increased with 72% of NDF in diet in both animal species. The buffaloes presented higher pH average values and rate of passage and lower ruminal volumes than cattle.
