-(Floristic survey from an Atlantic Forest remnant on the northern coast of Bahia State, Brazil). The Atlantic Forest in the Northeastern Brazil is composed by several physiognomies, with about 46% of its remnants located in the State of Bahia. However, floristic inventories conducted in the Atlantic Forest in the State are mostly focused in areas on the southern coast and vegetation dunes on the northern coast. Thus, this study aimed at a floristic survey of a semideciduous forest remnant located at the Fazenda Regional de Criação/UFBA, Entre Rios municipality, on the northern coast of the State. We recorded 192 species belonging to 139 genera and 59 were families. The presence of two new species, one rare species, four species restricted to this region, and two cited as vulnerable reinforce the importance of inventories in the Atlantic Forest remnants in the northern coast of Bahia, since they present high species richness and have physiognomic features not found in other areas of the Atlantic domain. Keywords: Atlantic Forest, Checklist of Angiosperms, Entre Rios, Semideciduous Forest RESUMO -(Levantamento florístico de um remanescente de Mata Atlântica no litoral norte do Estado da Bahia, Brasil).
AbstractFloristic surveys of the Asteraceae in the Espinhaço Range have showed a significant species richness and endemisms in this family for the grassland vegetation. Thus, this study aims to survey the floristic inventory of the Asteraceae in the municipality of Mucugê, Bahia, providing subsidies for an updated taxonomic recognition of the family in the region. Field collections have been conducted for at least a decade and a half covering much of the area. We also analyzed the material from the herbaria ALCB, CEPEC, HRB, HUEFS, MBM, NYBG, RB, SP, SPF and UB. Asteraceae is represented in Mucugê by 18 tribes, 78 genera and 167 species. The tribes with the greatest number of species are Eupatorieae (49 spp.), Vernonieae (46 spp.), Astereae (18 spp.) and Heliantheae (11 spp.). Five of the genera are monospecific (Pseudostifftia, Platypodanthera, Bahianthus, Conocliniopsis e Prolobus) and five are endemic to Bahia (Pseudostifftia, Stylotrichium, Lasiolaena and Semiria). The genera with highest number of species are Baccharis (17 spp.), Lychnophora (11 spp.), Mikania (10 spp.), Lepidaploa and Lessingianthus (7 spp.) each. Identification keys to the tribes, genera and species, followed by taxonomic comments and geographic distribution for each taxon, and illustrations and images are presented.
From 32 species known to be endemic to the state, 11 are restricted to the Pantanal. The genera with the largest number of species are Baccharis L. (24 species), Chromolaena DC. (22 spp.) and Lessingianthus H. Rob. (22 spp.). The genera with higher representation in the Atlantic Forest, such as Baccharis L. and Mikania Willd., are probably undersampled in the state. With regards to the Pantanal, the greater number of endemic species reveals its ecological signifi cance and confi rms the priority for conservation of this ecosystem.
Water availability is a critical point for dryland recovered on tropical regions of the world. This problem to become higher with the lacking information about the ecophysiologial behavior of the native plants on the initial growth stage under field conditions, mainly when these plants are submitted to different water availability levels. To address this question, we evaluated different water management strategies on the ecophysiological features of the five young native plants establishment in a degraded area located in the Caatinga, a dryland Brazilian forest. The water management strategies effects on native plants were checked by analyzing the photosynthesis rates, gas exchange and photochemistry efficiency in leaves of Crataeva tapia, Erythrina mulungu, Handroanthus impetiginosus, Tabebuia aurea and Ziziphus joazeiro. The experiment had four treatments (waterbox use, bovine manure, hydrogel, bovine manure plus hydrogel) and control. In the initial growth stage and under field conditions, the effects of water stress or water deficiency on the photosynthetic rates, gas exchange and chlorophyll fluorescence a of the T. aurea, H. impetiginosus, C. tapia and E. mulungu, exposed to waterbox and hydrogel, associated or not with bovine manure, were partially or totally mitigated. The Z. joazeiro species has the adaptive intrinsic characteristics that allow them to with stand the most stressful environmental conditions and this naturally allowed presenting greater water use efficiency and absence of damage to the photosynthetic apparatus and high Fv/Fm ratio. In general, the water management strategies studied have alleviated the effects of water stress, totally or partially, on the ecophysiological processes of young native plants under field conditions.
The taxonomic treatment of the tribe Millerieae of Bahia state, Brazil, is presented. The tribe is represented by five genera in Bahia: Acanthospermum (2 species), Galinsoga (2), Ichthyothere (2), Melampodium (2) and Tridax (1). Ichthyothere hirsuta is a new record in the state. Acanthospermum australe, A. hispidum, Ichthyothere terminalis and Tridax procumbens are widely distributed in Bahia and, although ruderal, are still inaccurately identified in herbaria. Descriptions, identification keys, illustrations, comments on taxonomy and geographical distribution are provided for taxa.
