Objective: To verify the association between social determinants of health and the vulnerability of adolescents to Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). Method: Cross-sectional study, performed with 287 students aged 11 to 17 years, in the outskirts of Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil, from August do September 2016. Two instruments were used, one destined to social determinants of health and another to investigating the vulnerability to STIs. The magnitude of associations was expressed through odds ratio and interval of confidence, considering a 5% significance level. This research was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Ceará. Results: 212 (73.9%) adolescents were considered more vulnerable, with a score ≥ 4. The intermediate social determinant “housing (home ownership)” obtained significant association with with the vulnerability to STIs (p of 0.022; CI 1.1 to 3.3; OR 1.9). Conclusion: The intermediate social determinant “type of housing” influences the vulnerability to STAs.
Resumo Objetivo Analisar as notificações de síndrome gripal segundo o intervalo de tempo decorrido entre início dos sintomas e realização do exame para COVID-19. Métodos Estudo transversal, utilizando registros de casos de síndrome gripal contendo resultados de testes diagnósticos da COVID-19 nas capitais brasileiras e no Distrito Federal, no sistema e-SUS Notifica, entre 1º/março/2020 e 18/agosto/2020. Comparou-se o intervalo de tempo entre início dos sintomas e realização do exame (teste ANOVA), classificando-o segundo a adequação/oportunidade do exame. Resultados Entre 1.942.514 notificações, o tempo médio entre início dos sintomas e execução dos testes foi de 10,2 dias (±17,1). Entre testados, predominou o sexo feminino (55,1%), idade de 20-39 anos (43,8%) e região Sudeste (43,0%). O teste ELISA IgM foi realizado em tempo adequado para 58,8%; e o teste rápido-antígeno, em tempo inadequado para 68,0%. Conclusão Observou-se inadequação entre início dos sintomas e realização dos testes para COVID-19 nas regiões brasileiras.
Objectives: to understand the health promotion skills found in the speeches of health practitioners in care for TB patients. Methods: qualitative study, developed with seven practitioners involved in care for TB patients, identified from a sociocentric approach, whose speeches were submitted to analysis based on the health promotion skills model in the Galway Consensus. Results: there were four domains: Catalyzing change; Leadership; Planning; and Partnerships. These domains resulted from health education actions, contribution of management nursing practitioners, seeking to meet patients’ needs and articulation of professional sectors. Final considerations: there were some skill domains in the speeches of health practitioners, with the nurse being quoted in the development of essential skills for health promotion activities, such as catalyzing change and leading care for TB patients.
Objective: To analyze the effects of an educational intervention via telephone on maternal breastfeeding self-efficacy. Method: Randomized controlled clinical trial including 240 puerperae from a secondary care hospital randomized into two groups: control and intervention. The educational intervention took place at seven, 30, 90, and 150 days postpartum and centered on self-efficacy and motivational interviewing principles. Self-efficacy was measured by the Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale – Short Form. The data followed the abnormal distribution, so non-parametric tests were used. Results: The intervention group obtained higher median breastfeeding self-efficacy scores across the three outcome measures when compared to the control group (p < 0,001). Furthermore, the intervention group showed increased self-efficacy scores at all monitoring moments, which shows that the educational intervention was able to raise and maintain women’s confidence in breastfeeding their child over time. Conclusion: The use of a telephone-based intervention focused on self-efficacy principles and delivered by trained nurses effectively promoted maternal confidence in breastfeeding. Objective: to validate the content and appearance of the educational booklet “You can control your child’s asthma - let’s learn together?” with parents and caregivers of children with asthma. Methods: this is a methodological study, carried out with 34 mothers and caregivers of children, from two to 10 years old, diagnosed with asthma. The educational booklet validation was performed using Content Validity Index (CVI) and assessment of comprehension, attractiveness, self-efficacy, persuasion, and cultural acceptance domains. Results: the booklet was considered clear (99.8%) and relevant (100%), with a global CVI of 0.99. Domain assessment proved to be an easy-to-understand tool, culturally appropriate, attractive, with persuasive power and promoting self-efficacy. Conclusion: the booklet is valid and adequate for promoting the self-efficacy of parents and caregivers in childhood asthma control and management, potentially scalable to other realities of outpatient care.

Objective: to assess the reaction and behavior of nurses after training on the use of educational tool to promote heathy nutrition to children. Method: pilot assessment study, of descriptive and quantitative approach, carried out in 2014 with eight nurses from the rural area of Ceará, Brazil, by observing a training workshop on the use of the serial album "Alimentos regionais: promovendo a segurança alimentar na promoção da alimentação infantil saudável" [Regional food: promoting food safety through child healthy feeding]. Results: the analysis of the reaction of nurses to the workshop showed that all of them (100%) were satisfied with the training. In behavior analysis, more than a half of the nurses have achieved the expected performance when implementing the illustrations of the serial album, seven of them (87.5%) being considered able to use the serial album. Conclusion: the training was considered effective, as all the participant nurses were satisfied and most of them considered capable of using the educational tool in promoting child healthy feeding.
