Objective: the aim of the present study was to characterize the population of elderly women who have suffered sexual and physical violence and describe the characteristics of this aggression. Method: a cross-sectional study was carried out using secondary data from the Violence and Accident Surveillance Information System, which registers reports of physical and sexual violence against the female population aged 60 and older. Results: in 2013 289 acts of physical violence against elderly women in the city of São Paulo were recorded, and sexual violence was reported in ten cases. Conclusion: physical and sexual violence occurred mainly in the family environment, with the majority of aggressors male and a family member or known to the victim. In their direct and daily dealings with elderly health service users at all levels of complexity, doctors should know how to investigate and identify cases of violence, properly approach patients, act in coordination with other professionals and apply interventions that are effective for each case.

Objectiveto describe the victim profile and circumstances of transport accidents involving children and adolescents who were attended at a teaching hospital in the southern zone of the city of São Paulo.Methodsthis was an individual observational case series study among patients up to the age of 19 years who were attended at a hospital in the southern zone of the city of São Paulo, state of São Paulo, Brazil, due to traffic accidents. The files notifying suspected or confirmed cases of violence and accidents (SIVVA files) covering January to December 2012 were analyzed.Resultsamong the 149 cases notified, 64.4% related to males and 35.6% to females. The transport accidents were predominantly among males, irrespective of age. The main injury diagnoses were superficial head trauma (24.8%) followed by multiple non-specified trauma (36.4%), in both sexes.Conclusiontransport accidents among children and adolescents occurred more often among males. The main transport accidents among the children and adolescents attended as emergency cases were caused by motor vehicles and motorcycles. Among the accident victims, the largest proportion was attended because of being run over.
OBJECTIVE: To characterize the motorcycle accidents occurred in the city of São Paulo, SP, Brazil in the year 2013, with emphasis on information about hospital admissions from SIH/SUS. METHODS: This is a retrospective cross-sectional study. The study covered 5,597 motorcyclists traumatized in traffic accident during the year 2013 occurred in the city of São Paulo. A survey was conducted using secondary data from the Information System of Hospitalization Health System (SIH/SUS). RESULTS: In 2013, in the city of São Paulo there were 5,597 admissions of motorcyclists traumatized in traffic accidents, of which 89.8% were male. The admission diagnosis were: leg fracture, femur fracture, and intracranial injury. CONCLUSION: This study confirms other preliminary studies on several points, among which stands out the highest prevalence of male young adults. Level of Evidence II, Retrospective Study.
OBJETIVO: Verificar crenças em saúde ocular relacionadas ao uso de óculos, esforço visual e danos à visão por leitura em diferentes situações, para subsidiar programas de treinamento de professores. MÉTODOS: Levantamento de dados entre professores de primeira série do ensino fundamental, das escolas públicas da região sul do Município de São Paulo, SP -- Brasil. Foi obtida uma população de 545 sujeitos, distribuídos em 120 escolas. Elaborou-se questionário auto-aplicável, estruturado com base em estudo exploratório. RESULTADOS: A população apresentou média de idade de 37,8 anos e média de tempo de magistério de 13,2 anos. A maioria (67,4%) não recebeu orientação em saúde ocular nos últimos três anos. Quase a totalidade (99,4%) acreditava na necessidade do uso constante de óculos; 62,3% consideraram ser o uso intensivo da visão fator agravante de distúrbios oftalmológicos; conseqüências danosas à visão por ver televisão a menos de 2 metros foram admitidas por 95% dos docentes e 59,9% deles acreditavam ser prejudicial à visão assistir à televisão com luzes apagadas; 45,6% acreditavam que a leitura em veículos em movimento pode causar problemas de visão. CONCLUSÕES: Foram evidenciadas crenças populares relacionadas à saúde ocular, mostrando a necessidade de prover orientação a professores para o desenvolvimento de ações de oftalmologia sanitária nas escolas de primeiro grau.
Objective: In this perspective, the present research aims to describe the reports of self-injury and suicide attempt among the elderly population living in the city of São Paulo. Methods: This is a descriptive, quantitative approach based on Violence and Accidents Surveillance Information System (SIVVA) of the city of São Paulo. In the selection of notifications, it was included the ones related to self-injury and attempted suicide against men and women, with age group between 60 and over, from January to December 2014 in the city of São Paulo, Southeastern Region of Brazil. Results: During 2014, 93 cases of self-injury and attempted suicide were reported among elderly people living in the city of São Paulo. The main instruments used by the elderly population in the analyzed period were poisoning (41.9%), other means (34.4%), cold weapon (15.1%), high precipitation places (4.3%), hanging or suffocation (3.2%), and firearm (1.1%). Conclusion: From the results of this study it was possible to characterize some specific aspects related to self-injury and suicide attempt among elderly in the evaluated population. Therefore, developing a strategy to promote effective prevention actions and offer specialized services to most risk groups (brown races, people with lower levels of education, and males). RESUMOObjetivo: Nesta perspectiva, a presente pesquisa tem como objetivo descrever os casos de autoagressão e tentativa de suicídio entre a população idosa residente na cidade de São Paulo. Métodos: Esta é uma abordagem descritiva e quantitativa baseada no Sistema de Informação para Vigilância de Violências e Acidentes (SIVVA) da cidade de São Paulo. Na seleção das notificações, foram incluídos os relacionados à autoagressão e à tentativa de suicídio contra homens e mulheres, com faixa etária entre 60 e mais, de janeiro a dezembro de 2014 na cidade de São Paulo, Região Sudeste do Brasil. Resultados: Durante o ano de 2014, 93 casos de autolesão e tentativa de suicídio foram notificados em pessoas idosas residentes na cidade de São Paulo. Os principais instrumentos utilizados pela população idosa no período analisado foram envenenamentos (41,9%), outros meios (34,4%), arma branca (15,1%), locais de alta precipitação (4,3%), suspensão ou sufocação (3,2%) e arma de fogo (1,1%). Conclusão:Com os resultados deste estudo, foi possível caracterizar alguns aspectos específicos relacionados a autoagressão e tentativa de suicídio entre os idosos na população estudada. Portanto, faz-se necessário desenvolver uma estratégia para promover ações de prevenção eficazes e oferecer serviços especializados para a maioria dos grupos de risco (raça parda, pessoas com níveis mais baixos de educação e homens).
