This paper presents a numerical model for a compact direct-contact cross-flow air/water heat exchanger where evaporating water cools down an air stream, and where an innovatively designed metallic direct evaporative pad enhances air-water interaction. The numerical model implements energy and mass conservation equations of humid air and water in a one-dimensional geometry by applying correlations for heat and mass transfer coefficients. The system of ordinary differential equations is solved by central-finite discretisation using Matlab. The effective hydraulic diameter is isolated as the only unknown model parameter, and is determined by a parameter estimation using experimental data available from a producer of such a direct evaporative pad. The numerical model is able to predict the air outlet temperature, with an maximal error of 1.33 % compared to experimental data for different inlet temperature and humidity values. Humid air properties inside and at the outlet of the direct evaporative pad, the pad effectiveness and the water consumption can be evaluated by the presented model. The use of the numerical model is demonstrated with examples analysing the impact on heat exchanger effectiveness of a changed geometry (design analysis) and of varying air inlet conditions for a given geometry (operational analysis).

Purpose To analyze the clinical pattern of ocular toxoplasmosis (OT) in a referral centre in Serbia.Patients and methods The medical records of consecutive patients admitted for OT to the single referral centre for uveitis in Serbia between 2006 and 2010 were retrospectively analyzed. OT was diagnosed on the basis of typical fundus lesions and positive serology for Toxoplasma.

Terson's syndrome should be considered in patients who had previous cerebral hemorrhage and are referred to eye specialist because of loss of vision. However, this phenomenon has only rarely been described in association with subdural and epidural hematomas or traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage.

Iako je koncept gejmifikacije potekao iz sfere digitalnih medija, svoju primenu je našao i u oblasti menadžmenta destinacija. Ovaj koncept, iako se prvi put pojavio pre šest godina, privukao je pažnju ograničenog broja autora, ali nijednog iz oblasti destinacijskog marketinga i menadžmenta, što ovaj rad svrstava u kategoriju pionirskih. Suštinski bitno za implementaciju gejmifikacije je razumeti osnove, ključne elemente, glavne tehnike, kao i biti kreativan u prilagođavanju koncepta uslovima konkretne industrije. Gejmifikaciju je neophodno razlikovati od samog čina igranja igre, koja je u prirodi nestrukturirana i kreirana za zabavu i razonodu. Gejmifikacija je marketing alat koji se koristi za razvoj odnosa sa potrošačima u okviru netipičnog i dinamičkog okruženja same igre. Analizirana studija slučaja pokazuje na koji način se teorijski utvrđeni principi implementiraju u praksi u realnim situacijama.

Background/Aim. Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment is a potentially blinding condition of the posterior segment of the eye. Currently, the only treatment modality is surgery and surgical options include scleral buckling, pars plana vitrectomy and pneumoretinopexy. Many factors may influence the outcome of the surgery. Well defined indications are essential for achieving the best postoperative results. The aim of this study was to assess anatomical and functional outcome of treatment with scleral buckling for macula-off rhegmatogenous retinal detachments. Methods. This prospective, nonrandomized, interventional study included consecutive patients underwent scleral buckling for macula-off retinal detachment in the tertiary centre for vitreoretinal surgery. Results. A total of 168 consecutive patients (mean age 58.2 ± 13.9 years) were included in the study. Postoperatively, anatomical success was achieved in 152 (90.5%) of the patients. The short-term results of our clinical trial showed that pharmacological intravitreal agents, such as bevacizumab and triameinolon-acetonid, lead to rapid resolution of macular edema and significant improvement of visual acuity.
