Pale sulfonated shale oils were capable of favoring venous ulcer healing in addition to compression therapy. PSSO should be considered for future wound care protocols for treatment of venous leg ulcers.
Summary
A lip cream with special propolis extract GH 2002 at a concentration of 0.5% (199 patients) was tested against aciclovir 5% (198 patients) in the treatment of episodes of herpes labialis under double-blind conditions. Upon inclusion, all patients were in the vesicular phase. Application was five times daily of approximately 0.2 g of cream to the entire upper and lower lip. The primary parameter was the difference in time between groups to complete encrustation or epithelization of the lesions. Secondary endpoints were the course of typical herpes symptoms (pain, burning and itching, tension and swelling), the global assessment of efficacy and the safety of application. The predefined clinical situation was reached after a (median) 3 days with propolis and 4 days with aciclovir (
p
< 0.0001). Significant differences in favor of propolis were also found for all secondary parameters. No allergic reactions, local irritations or other adverse events occurred.
The potential of carboxytherapy in diseases of the urogenital system organs Recently carboxytherapy has been widely used for the treatment of many diseases, and it is associated with the high efficiency and low cost. Carboxytherapy as the method of treatment has been used for 70 years in the international medical practice and more than 50 years in aesthetic medicine. Aim. To substantiate the use of carboxytherapy as an innovative method of treatment for diseases of the urogenital system organs. Materials and methods. The analysis of scientific sources concerning the treatment of sexual dysfunction, erosion of the cervix, menopause, vulvovaginal atrophy, initial stages of the stress urinary incontinence, erectile dysfunction, and impotence was performed. Results. It has been determined that various variants of carboxytherapy can be used to obtain the antihypoxic, reparative-regenerative, spasmolitic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antioxidant effects in clinical practice as a result of the treatment. Patients with different pathologies of the urogenital system noted improvement in functioning of urogenital organs, release of pain, decrease in inflammation, mood stability, and good mental and physical performance. Therefore, the quality of life has been improved. Conclusions. Thus, СО 2 can be considered as a unique medicinal product, and carboxytherapy as an alternative treatment for many diseases.
Hair disorders represent an extraordinarily exhaustive and serious chapter in dermatology. In many patients they cause serious mental and health problems. Alopecia areata is one of the most frequent types of hair loss. The therapy uses topical and systemic preparations as well as various combinations thereof. A female patient of 89 years (born in 1927), in a good health condition, living on her own in a house suffered a stroke in 2001, and in 2010 she was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour (meningioma). Apart from occasional memory loss and short term nausea she had no difficulties and could take care of herself. Following a visit by her relatives in December 2013 she suddenly lost consciousness, collapsed, and was lying on a stone floor until her relatives found her after the following two days. She developed an extensive pressure ulcer on her shoulder blades and on the occipital and parietal bone on her skull, accompanied by loss of hair, skin, and subcutaneous tissue up to the bone in the extent of 10 x 12 cm. After two months of hospitalisation at the Department of Neurology her general condition stabilised, she could communicate, but her mobility was limited. The pressure ulcer on her shoulder blade healed quite effectively, the manifestations on the cranium were stagnant, the pressure ulcer showed callous margins, and the bone was coloured dark brown to black. Since March 2014 the therapy included gel preparations, In May 2014 we commenced therapy using stem cells-fibroblasts, on a culture medium-cellulose wound dressing Hcel ®
