Silvicultural Performance of Tectona grandis L.f. at Different Spacings inCaceres, Mato Grosso State, Brazil ABSTRACTTeak meets the main criteria for selection of tree species for timber production of rapid growth. Thus choosing the proper spacing will provide the largest volume per area and stems with desirable quality. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of spacing in several dendrometric variables in stands of teak in Caceres, Mato Grosso state. The following variables were assessed at the ages of 11 and 16 years: diameter at breast height (DBH), total height, basal area, total volume per tree, volume per hectare, annual average growth, and survival. It was observed that the lower the density of trees, the greater the DAP and the individual volume; and that the greater the density, the greater the basal area and the total volume per hectare. Lack of thinning negatively affected the dendrometric averages and the production of stands at different spacings.
Height estimative of Tectona grandis L. f. trees using regression and artificial neural networks ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to evaluate the modeling regression and artificial neural networks to estimate the total of teak trees in different spacings in Cáceres, MT, Brazil. The database was derived from the measurement of dbh by forest census. Subsequently, these were grouped into classes of diameter, with an amplitude of 5 cm. Was measured the overall height (h) of 20% of subjects in each spacing, and diameter class. To estimate the total height per regression were used nonlinear and linear models, while for the estimated by artificial neural networks of the type were tested Multilayer Perceptron. In regression modeling, the non-linear models were superior to linear, highlighting the Gompertz model. Both techniques were efficient for estimates the total teak height, however, through the modeling for artificial neural network, the error values were lower than 10% in all evaluated spacings.
Phytoremediation is an alternative technique used to treat copper-contaminated soils. The objective of this research was to explore the behavior of nine summer cover crops regarding the growth, absorption and translocation of copper in soils with contamination levels exceeding the Value of Prevention, with a view to selecting plants for phytoremediation programs. In the experiments the Cambisol was contaminated with copper, added in doses of 0, 100, 200, 400, 500 and 600mg kg-1, in which the following nine plants were cultivated under greenhouse conditions: Canavalia ensiformis, Cajanus cajan, Dolichos lablad, Mucuna cinereum, Mucuna aterrima, Crotalaria juncea, Crotalaria spectabilis, Pennisetum glaucum and Paspalum notatum. At 90 days after sowing the plants were evaluated for dry mass of shoot and root, Cu, N, P, K, Ca, Zn, and Fe levels in the shoot and Cu in the roots. High soil Cu levels induced a decline in the phosphorus absorption by the plants. Canavalia ensiformis displayed high potential for phytoextraction as these plants could translocate high copper concentrations to the aerial plant parts, while the Mucuna cinereum and M. aterrima are indicated for the copper phytostabilization programs, due to the high copper accumulation in their root systems.
ABSTRACT:The objective was to perform a floristic and phytosociological study and adjust probability density functions to express the diameter distribution in a Cerrado area on the banks of the Uruçuí-Preto River. The study was carried out in the municipality of Baixa Grande do Ribeiro, Piauí, where 10 sample units of 20 x 20 m (400 m²) were placed. Living and dead individuals with CHC ≥ 10 cm were measured. To verify the sample adequacy, a method of the species-area curve was used and the horizontal structure was analyzed through phytosociological estimators. For the diametrical distribution, the functions of 2 and 3-parameters Weibull, type I and II Meyer, were adjusted. There were 621 individuals distributed in 31 species belonging to 19 families. The diametric distributions were presented in decreasing order, and the 3-parameter Weibull distribution was significant for all species analyzed and for those of higher importance value (IV), according to the Kolmogorov-Smirnov (K-S) test. The species Vochysia pyramidalis, Mauritia flexuosa, Alchornea discolor and Tapirira obtuse presented high density and frequency in the studied area with the highest IV. The 3-parameter Weibull distribution presented adequate adjustment for both data and may be indicated to describe the diametric distribution of the species. Keywords: riparian forest, horizontal structure, probability distributions.
EFFECT OF SPACING AND PLANTING ARRANGEMENT ON THE HYPSOMETRIC RELATION OF EUCALYPTUS IN CONSORTIUM PRODUCTION SYSTEMS ABSTRACT: Given the importance of crop-livestock-forest integration systems (iLPF), it is essential to carry out research on height modeling to support the management and quantification of available resources. In this study, we aimed to adjust traditional models of hypsometric relation and to evaluate the effect of spacing and planting arrangements in the equations adjustment. The data were obtained from the eucalyptus trees in an integrated-crop-livestock-forest system (iCLF), in experimental areas implemented by the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa Agrossilvipastoril), located in the municipality of Sinop, northern region of Mato Grosso, Brazil. The precision and accuracy of the hypsometric models was evaluated through statistical indicators and graphic residue analysis. The influence of spacing and planting arrangement on the hypsometric relation was performed through the model identity test of Gaybiil (2000). Based on the statistics and graphical analysis the Assmann model presented better accuracy of fit for total height estimation. To estimate the commercial height, the Hyperbolic model obtained better performance. The identity test revealed that plant spacing, and arrangement influence significantly the hypsometric relationship and a single equation should not be adjusted to represent the total and commercial height in the different treatments in iCLF system. Keywords: modeling; identity test; tree height.
