This study aims to investigate and create a writing learning process that can generate both motivation and results from writing activities. The effectiveness of this model can be seen from students' improvement both the quality of the process and the results of writing learning. Based on preliminary study, this study found a number of data about writing learning. The findings covered students' low writing ability, their learning was still results-oriented rather than process, the learning approach is individual and has not optimized the potential of student interaction and collaboration, and the was only one draft as a product. To overcome the issues mentioned, this study proposes the model of cooperative learning based on interpersonal intelligence. The study applied quasi-experimental, with control groups and experimental groups given pretests and posttests. This study found that there was a significant increase in students' article writing ability. Their development in writing ability can be seen from aspects of content, organization, language, writing mechanics. In terms of the principle content of interpersonal skills, they experienced a significant increase. The implication of this study is to enable language teachers to deliver writing skill teaching to their language learners especially in their article writing.
PISA's findings reported that Indonesian elementary school students (IESS) achieved their average reading comprehension ability which were below the standard set by OECD. This research proposed school literacy movement (SLM) as an apparatus to cultivate IESS reading and writing skill habit. SLM served as the basis for achieving the 2013 Curriculum requirement. This study applied quasi-experimental method with employed sample of 126 IESS of 5th and 4th graders and their teachers serving in four schools. This study showed that there was significant effect of ITL to improve IESS reading comprehension ability of 5th graders.
This study discusses one method of phonetic correction for pronunciation learning improvement called Verbo-tonal method. Nowadays, this method of phonetic correction is the most widespread method. However, this method is not quite popular in Indonesia. The main objective of this study is to analyze fundamental problems that occur in the learning process and capture the causes of the problems. The study is conducted by descriptive literature review method. Therefore, this study aims to collect as much information as possible on the Verbo-tonal method. The findings show that the Verbo-tonal method has a good impact on pronunciation learning. Furthermore, this study is expected to provide insights for researchers, practitioners, and future researchers to strengthen knowledge in the field.

To gain international recognition, many universities in Indonesia offer international student exchange programs, one of which is the credit transfer program. Participants in that program have differences in communicative competence. That holds for Indonesian students studying abroad and vice versa. This study analyzes the intercultural communication skills of international students and aims to acquire comprehensive information on intercultural competencies based on the students’ intercultural sensitivity, awareness and adroitness. A descriptive qualitative study was conducted among international students at one university in Indonesia, involving six French students from the student exchange program who studied for one semester. The data was obtained via focused group discussion and interviews. Chen and Starosta's intercultural competence model was used as an analytical tool. The findings indicate that the students have proper intercultural communication competence, which helps them in implementing their communication strategies, adjusting to and thriving in a new cultural and academic environment.
The lack of a model for promoting productive learning environments and a clear major value of choice to guide practice has resulted in the needs for this research. Values are important aspects of learning, yet they are not used to their fullest potential in educational practices in Indonesia. The primary objective for this study was to propose an appropriate model with application of local wisdom value in elementary school, and synthesized strategies for challenging the value for sustainable use in schools. This paper discusses and describe possible guidelines targeting the design of learning local wisdom value’s-based learning model with creative learning environments that influence student literacy skills. This research was an Educational Design Research. To develop the local wisdom value’s-based learning model we need, the following five steps will be taken 1) putting several available models side by side (literature research), 2) comparing and contrasting the models (plenary study), 3) deciding most essential model components (ethnography analysing), 4) creating theoretical model and prototype (setting by Focus Group Discussion/FGD), 5) testing the prototype models with limited empirical verification sample (setting by workshop). At present, this research has been in the stage of compiling a prototype of the local wisdom value’s-based literacy learning model. The next stage will be consolidated through a workshop. The outcomes of the focus group interview and future workshop activities will be synthesized into five design guidelines providing orientation for the design of a local wisdom value’s-based literacy learning model. The results of this research recommend that the learning with the local wisdom value can be used as an approach to learning literacy. The model also promotes a positive classroom climate, a community of learners, developing learner responsibility, and maximizing opportunities for learning.
This paper aims to describe the children's social identity of Indonesian children's literature. Based on the low understanding of social identity that has the potential to cause social interaction problems thus, it needs to be introduced from an early age to children. The children's story is a good teaching material as well as the right media to introduce the concept. This research applied content analysis method. The data collection technique was continuous reading and recording. Data analysis techniques were categorized into tabulating and inferencing. The results of this study were: (1) The social identity of children in Indonesian children's literature in the family environment was children, grandchildren, and nephews; in school was as a student, a friend, a seatmate, and a classmate; in the community was as citizens, friends, playmates, neighbors, sellers, and buyers. (2) The social identity of children in Indonesian children's literature was presented through narrative and dialogue. (3) The social identity of children in Indonesian children's literature is relatively complex but it was united as one unity of story. Thus, the existence and diversity of social identity in the story can be utilized as teaching materials in the elementary school so that students have adequate self and social literacy.
