The study focuses on how teenage fatherhood affects the life histories of young low-income males. Field work included individual interviews of young fathers living in a shantytown in Rio de Janeiro city. The argument is that an approach from the male standpoint affords access to other levels in a web of meanings and relations that refer back to the logic of contraception, the formation of couples, and active fatherhood. The argument also highlights the links between type of relationship and partnership, use and non-use of contraceptive methods, and the meanings of fatherhood for young low-income males. It highlights that entering actively into fatherhood helps boys consolidate their image as "mature", "responsible", "adult" men.

Este artigo apresenta dados parciais de ampla pesquisa qualitativa, sócio-antropológica, realizada em cinco estados do Brasil, para captar a perspectiva de usuárias de áreas urbanas e rurais sobre suas experiências contraceptivas e reprodutivas, bem como sobre o atendimento em contracepção e planejamento reprodutivo no Sistema Único de Saúde. Enfocam-se resultados do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, mediante sessenta entrevistas individuais semi-estruturadas, com usuárias entre 18 e 49 anos, de duas unidades básicas de saúde da capital e de uma unidade do Programa Saúde da Família (PSF), no interior, em área rural. Constatou-se maior diversidade no uso de métodos na capital, em contraste com o interior, onde apenas a laqueadura se apresenta como alternativa à pílula. O trabalho educativo em grupo na capital amplia as possibilidades de escolha de métodos e aprendizado coletivo, embora o acesso ao DIU e à ligadura ainda seja considerado problemático, devido às dificuldades no atendimento. Os serviços de saúde privilegiam assistência às mulheres em trajetória reprodutiva; há necessidade de atenção às mulheres adultas não grávidas e adolescentes, além do fortalecimento do trabalho educativo no PSF.

Resumo

Micronutrient deficiency effect on the nutritional status of the castor bean cultivar IrisAbstract -The objectives of this work were to characterize the visual symptoms of micronutrient deficiencies, and their effects on nutricional status of castor beans. A greenhouse experiment with nutrient solutions was carried out from February to June, 2003. The commercial hybrid "Iris" was used. Treatments were as follows: complete, minus B, minus Cu, minus Fe, minus Mn, minus Mo, and minus Zn. Symptoms of deficiency were observed in the treatments with omission of B, Fe, and Mn. The symptoms firstly developed when either Fe or Mn was deficient, and they were followed by those deficient in boron. Dry matter yield was affected in the decreasing order: Fe>Mn>B. Both upper and lower leaves reflect the nutritional status of the castor bean with respect to B, Cu, Fe, Mn, Mo and Zn. Leaf chlorophyll, as measured in units SPAD, was influenced by the treatments.

Resumo Estudou-se a repartição de nutrientes nos ramos, folhas e flores na antese da primeira fase reprodutiva do cafeeiro (Coffea arabica L.), cultivares Mundo Novo IAC 388-17 enxertada sobre Apoatã IAC 2258 (4.000 plantas ha -1 ) e Catuaí Amarelo IAC 62 (5.000 plantas ha -1 ). No florescimento, coletou-se um ramo plagiotrópico no terço médio de 20 plantas, contando, em média, 37 e 29 ramos floríferos na cultivar Mundo Novo e Catuaí Amarelo, respectivamente, separando-se flores, folhas, e ramo (lenho). As flores do cafeeiro constituem um forte dreno de nutrientes, variável entre as cultivares; o acúmulo de nutrientes pelas cultivares Catuaí Amarelo e Mundo Novo antecede a antese no início da primavera, e a extração total de Mg pelas flores das cultivares representa 52% do extraído pelas partes da planta (flores, folhas e ramos), o que sugere que a adubação do cafeeiro deve iniciar antes do florescimento.Termos para indexação: Coffea arabica, floração, nutrientes minerais, disponibilidade de nutrientes. Nutrients repartition in the coffee branches, leaves and flowersAbstract The nutrients repartition in the coffee (Coffea arabica L.) branches, leaves and flowers were studied at anthesis of the first reproductive phase for Mundo Novo IAC 388-17 cultivar grafted on Apoatã IAC 2258 (4,000 plants ha -1 ) and Catuaí Amarelo IAC 62 (5,000 plants ha -1 ) cultivars. At flowering, the reproductive branches were collected using its median third part computing 37 and 29 flowering branches of Mundo Novo and Catuaí Amarelo cultivars, respectively, where the flowers, leaves and branches were separated. The coffee flowers are an important physiological drain of nutrients, changeable among cultivars; the nutrients accumulation by Mundo Novo and Catuaí Amarelo cultivars was verified before the anthesis, at the beginning of Spring season, and the total Mg extraction by flowers represents 52% of the flowers, leaves and branches extraction, indicating that the coffee fertilization must initiate before flowering phase.Index terms: Coffee Arabica, flowering, mineral nutrients, nutrient availability.(1) Aceito para publicação em 25 de setembro de 2001.

No abstract

The article estimates the magnitude of sexual coercion among young adults in three large Brazilian cities. In addition to evaluating prevalence, the article analyzes the victim's and perpetrator's characteristics, identifies the main strategies used in coercion, and explores the social scenarios that favor the occurrence of sexual violence. The article draws on data from a household survey called the GRAVAD Project, conducted in Porto Alegre, Rio de Janeiro, and Salvador and completed in 2002. Interviews were applied to a stratified sample of males and females aged 18-24 years, with 4,634 respondents (47.2% males and 52.8% females). Prevalence of some lifetime experience as victims of sexual coercion was estimated at 16.5% for women and 11.1% for men. Victim's and perpetrator's age in the first episode, the type of relationship between them, and the forms of pressure varied between males and females. The magnitude of such events, differences between men and women, and the higher prevalence rates in certain population sub-groups demand immediate preventive policies and strategies.

RESUMO:Com o presente trabalho, objetivou-se descrever os sintomas de defi ciência de nitrogênio (N), fósforo (P), potássio (K), cálcio (Ca), magnésio (Mg), enxofre (S) e avaliar o efeito da omissão desses nutrientes na composição mineral das folhas de mudas de sangra d'água (Croton urucurana). O experimento foi desenvolvido em casa de vegetação, em blocos ao acaso, com três repetições e sete tratamentos, empregando-se a técnica da diagnose por subtração. Foram observados os sintomas das defi ciências e medidos os parâmetros biométricos, a produção de matéria seca e determinados os teores foliares. A omissão dos macronutrientes resultou em alterações morfológicas traduzidas em anormalidades visíveis, sendo que, os primeiros sintomas surgiram nos tratamentos com omissão de N, K, Ca e Mg, seguindo-se os tratamentos com omissão de P e S. A omissão de N, Ca e Mg provocou a maior redução no desenvolvimento em altura, no diâmetro do caule e no número de folhas e ramos. A produção de biomassa das mudas mostrou-se pouco infl uenciada pelos tratamentos, não apresentando diferença signifi cativa na produção de matéria seca.Palavras-chave: Espécie nativa, diagnose foliar, nutrição mineral de plantas.
