Tais ações têm alterado significativamente a variabilidade natural do regime de vazões nesses rios, afetando ecossistemas fluviais adaptados a estes processos hidrológicos.

In this context, the presented study aimedto assess the degree and potential disfigurement of flow pulse patterns (magnitude, frequency, duration, time of occurrence and gradient) in the Paraná River basin, where fifty-seven large reservoirs are installed. The study was based on 33 hydrological variables suggestedin theIndicators Hydrologic Alteration ( IHA ) method which were assessed viathe Range of Variability Approach ( RVA ) method. Such method enabled comparing estimated indexes for two scenarios (Scenario I-naturalflow regime and Scenario II-present flow regime),resultingin impacts on the natural flow variability estimation. As results,it was found that flow alteration in magnitude, frequency, timing, duration and shape ranged from moderate to severe.
