Histochemical and some quantitative features of sapwood and heartwood cells of Quercus glabrescens, Q. potosina y Q. eduardii are described. The trees were collected in different sites of Huayacocotla, in Veracruz State. The results show that sapwood of the species are very similar in histochemical and quantitative trends but heartwood differ on chemical deposits of gelatinous fibers, and violet deposits of polisacharids present on rays and also the petrification processes in Q. potosina rays. Cell wall quality and the relationship between dimensions and types of chemical compounds are discussed as well.
A description is made of the situation of oak wood use in México. The most recent statistics of standing forest volume and wood production are included. Reference is made of the distribution of this resource in the country. The subjects treated in this work are: utilization of oak wood (including cellulose, sawn wood, fuel, crossties, poles, piles, round wood, veneer and plywood), and the influence of the technological characteristics on its use. The exploitation of oakwood is discussed in the context of the international market. It is concluded that the conservation of oak forests is an urgent task to preserve the ecological equilibrium of its growing areas.
Wood macroscopic and microscopic features of 5 species from Quintana Roo are given: Drypetes lateriflora (Euphorbiaceae ), Exothea diphylla (Sapindaceae ), Myrcianthes fragrans var. fragrans (Myrtaceae ), Diospyros nicarf!guensis (Ebenaceae) and Thevetia gaumeri (Apocynaceae). One tree from each species was colected; for the macroscopic study, wood samples of 15 X 7 X 1 cm of size were obtained and for the microscopic one wood samples of 2 X 2 cm from which permanent slides and slash material were prepared. Measurable elements were submitted to a statistical anaylisis considering the media value for the classification including mínima and maxima values in the description of each specie. A map pointing the collection place, a square and photographs of microscopic features of the species are given.
ABSTRACTThe macroscopic and microscopic anatomical description of the wood of five fruit species of the Rosaceae family is described. One tree by species was recollected. The macroscopic study was made in wood samples of 15 x 7 x 1 cm and the microscopic study this was made by using slides of dissociated material and cuts from a cube. Samples of wood and slides showed the three typical planes of wood, namely, transverse cross section, tangential and radial. A univariate statistic analysis was performed to the quantitative elements, which were classified according to their average. The five wood species showed similar macroscopic and microscopic characteristics between subfamily, although there were differences between species of the same subfamily, these were stronger between both subfamilies. The purpose of the study was to suggest possible end uses for the wood of fruits trees, since generally speaking this is not used once the trees are no longer productive.
