Palavras-chave: eficiências de utilização da energia, exigência de energia para mantença, metabolismo energético, níveis de energia na dieta Effect of Dietary Metabolizable Energy on Energy Metabolism and Performance in Broiler ChickensABSTRACT -The objective of this work was to study the effect of dietary ME levels on the performance and the energy metabolism of male broilers on growing phase, from 22 to 43 days old. Two hundred and eighty-eight broilers were ramdomly assigned to three energy levels (3,050; 3,200 and 3,350 kcal/kg) and three feeding levels (ad libitum, 75% and 50% ad libitum), with four replicates of eight birds, to determine the energy maintenance requirements and the energy efficiency utilization. The method used was the comparative slaughter. Twelve birds were sacrificed in the beginning of trial to determine the initial body composition and 144 birds were used to determine the AMEn of diets according to ME levels and feeding levels. The dietary ME levels affected the ME intake and consequently in retained body energy (RE) and heat production (HP). The maintenance metabolizable energy requirements were: 131, 141 and 132 kcal/kg of W 0.75 / day for 3,350; 3,200 and 3,050 ME/kg, respectively. The highest ME level promoted better performance of the birds, however, the medium ME level provide better values of efficiency for protein deposition and for fat deposition, consequently, lower body fat composition, showing better carcass quality. 1. The objective of this study was to determine a metabolisable energy (ME) requirement model for broiler breeder hens. The influence of temperature on ME requirements for maintenance was determined in experiments conducted in three environmental rooms with temperatures kept constant at 13, 21 and 30 degrees C using a comparative slaughter technique. The energy requirements for weight gain were determined based upon body energy content and efficiency of energy utilisation for weight gain. The energy requirements for egg production were determined on the basis of egg energy content and efficiency of energy deposition in the eggs. 2. The following model was developed using these results: ME = kgW0.75(806.53-26.45T + 0.50T2) + 31.90G + 10.04EM, where kgW0.75 is body weight (kg) raised to the power 0.75, T is temperature ( degrees C), G is weight gain (g) and EM is egg mass (g). 3. A feeding trial was conducted using 400 Hubbard Hi-Yield broiler breeder hens and 40 Peterson males from 31 to 46 weeks of age in order to compare use of the model with a recommended feeding programme for this strain of bird. The application of the model in breeder hens provided good productive and reproductive performance and better results in feed and energy conversion than in hens fed according to strain recommendation. In conclusion, the model evaluated predicted an ME intake which matched breeder hens' requirements.
Palavras-chave: alimento alternativo, cor da gema, coturnix, produção de ovosPerformance and egg quality of laying Japanese quails fed rations with different sorghum levels ABSTRACT -The aim of this study was to evaluate performance and egg quality of Japanese quails (Coturnix japonica) fed rations with low-tannin sorghum replacing corn. Two hundred and ten 65-d female Japanese quails were distributed in a complete random design with five experimental rations (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100% replacement of corn by sorghum) and six replicates with seven birds. There was no significant effect of sorghum levels in the diets on any of the production characteristics in this experiment, which lasted for 112 days. As the levels of sorghum in the ration increased, yolk color and ration cost were reduced. Low-tannin sorghum can completely replace corn in rations for laying Japanese quails.
The zoonotic potential to cause human and/or animal infections among multidrug-resistant extraintestinal pathogenic Escherichia coli from avian origin was investigated. Twenty-seven extraintestinal pathogenic E. coli isolates containing the increased survival gene (iss) were obtained from the livers of healthy and diseased poultry carcasses at two slaughterhouses in Salvador, northeastern Brazil. The antimicrobial resistance-susceptibility profiles were conducted with antibiotics of avian and/or human use by the standardized disc-diffusion method. Antimicrobial resistance was higher for levofloxacin (51.8%), amoxicillin/clavulanic acid (70.4%), ampicillin (81.5%), cefalotin (88.8%), tetracycline (100%) and streptomycin (100%). The minimum inhibitory concentrations above the resistance breakpoints of doxycycline, neomycin, oxytetracycline and enrofloxacin reached, respectively, 88.0%, 100%, 75% and 91.7% of the isolates. Strains with high and low antimicrobial resistance were i.p. administered to Swiss mice, and histopathological examination was carried out seven days after infection. Resistance to goat and human serum complement was also evaluated. The results show that Swiss mice challenged with strain 2B (resistant to 11 antimicrobials) provoked a severe degeneration of hepatocytes besides lymphocytic infiltration in the liver, whereas the spleen showed areas of degeneration of the white and red pulp. Conversely, the spleen and liver of mice challenged with strain 4A (resistant to two antimicrobials) were morphologically preserved. In addition, complement resistance to goat and human serum was high for strain 2B and low for strain 4A. Our data show that multidrug resistance and pathogenesis can be correlated in extraintestinal pathogenic E. coli strains obtained from apparently healthy poultry carcasses, increasing the risk for human public healthy.
Palavras-chave: equações de predição, exigências de proteína bruta, frangos de corte, ganho de peso, mantença, método fatorial Prediction Equations for Protein Requirements on BroilersABSTRACT -The objective of this study was to determine prediction equations for crude protein (CP) requirements for males and females broilers using the factorial method. In order to determine the crude protein for the maintenance was used the nitrogen balance technique. The crude protein requirements for weight gain were determined based on body nitrogen content and nitrogen utilization efficiency for the diet. Considering the requirements for maintenance and weight gain were elaborated prediction equations for CP requirements (g/bird/day) for males broilers (7 to 21 days -PB = 1.323xW 0.75 + 0.256xG, 22 to 42 days -PB = 1.323xW 0.75 + 0.277xG, and 43 to 56 days -PB = 1.323xW 0.75 + 0.283xG) and females (7 to 21 days -PB = 1.748xW 0.75 + 0.258xG, 22 to 42 days -PB = 1.748xW 0.75 + 0.274xG, and 43 a 56 days -PB = 1.748xW 0.75 + 0.300xG) where W = body weight (kg) and G = daily weight gain (g/day). The prediction equations utilization is recommended to determine the minimal nitrogen or crude protein requirements considering the amino acid requirements.
Palavras-chave: alimentação alternativa, aves, desempenho, rendimento de carcaça, resíduo de abatedouro Total replacement of corn by sorghum and slaughterhouse poultry oil in broiler dietsABSTRACT -This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of total replacement of corn by sorghum and crecent levels of slaugherhouse poultry oil (PO) on performance and carcass characteristics and yield of broilers. A total of 260 chicks one day-old, males, Cobb strain, was allotted to the following treatments: a corn based reference ration, and four sorghum based diets with the inclusion levels of 0, 2.5, 5, and 7.5% of PO according to the growing phases (from 1 to 7 days, 8 to 21 days, 22 to 33 days and 34 to 42 days). The experimental desing was in radomized blocks, with two blocks, where the parameter for blocks was the sense of the hangar, two replicates per block, with 13 birds per pen and five treatments. The inclusion of PO in the sorghum based diet linearly increased feed intake (FI), except during the first phase, and showed a linear effect on weight gain, that increased in the phases from 1 to 7 days, 22 to 33 days, and 1 to 42 days. ...
-Aiming to evaluate the effect of tomato waste inclusion on productive performance and characteristics of carcass and main broiler chicken cuts, an experiment was carried out using 300 male Cobb chicks, distributed in a complete randomized design, with five rations and five replicates. Diets consisted of control ration based on corn and soybean meal and four rations with 5, 10, 15 and 20% of tomato waste. Feed intake, weight gain and feed conversion and, at the end of experiment, slaughter weight, gutted carcass without feet and head, breast, drumstick, thigh, wing, back, edible guts and belly fat were evaluated every week, as well as it was the yield. Tomato waste increased feed intake in the periods from 1 to 7, 8 to 14 and 29 to 36 days of age and worsened gain weight and feed conversion of broiler chickens up to 29 days of age.Regarding carcass weight (g) and weight of the noble parts, breast, drumstick and thighs decreased linearly in function of the use of tomato waste in poultry on pre-initial and initial phase, that is, up to 28 days old, but yield (%) was not affected except for yield of heart and liver. Use of tomato waste in ration of broiler chickens during the period from 1 to 28 days may decrease weight gain and worsen food conversion. Tomato waste may be used as ration ingredient in ration of broiler chicken in the breeding period from 29 to 42 days of age up to the level of 20% without harming weight gain and feed conversion of poultry.
