The purpose of this study was to illuminate the experiences and understandings of
adaptive physical education (APE) teachers in their implementation of the newly
introduced K-13 curriculum in special needs schools (SLB) in Indonesia. This research
is a replication of previous research (Sigid XXABSTRACT Setiawan, 2018) conducted with primary
school physical education (PE) teachers. Twenty-six APE teachers aged 28-39 years (X
= 34.04, SD = 3.46) who worked with various disabilities in SLB were involved as
participants. Data collected were observations, interviews, and documentation working
within a phenomenological framework. Results indicated that teachers’ experiences of
the K-13 implementation were focused on (1) the acquisition of basic knowledge and
competence, (2) the adoption of the scientific approach, (3) the use of authentic
assessment, and (4) awareness of the supporting and inhibiting factors. The
understandings arising from these experiences were that: (1) the required knowledge of
APE SLB teachers could be found within the supporting government publications; (2)
the scientific approach placed systematic student problem solving at its core, and; (3)
authentic assessment involves a comprehensive focus on the learning and development
of skills, attitudes and knowledge. A comparison of these findings with those of the
primary teacher study showed that some of the additional understandings revealed by
the Adapted PE teachers reflected some of the specific demands and challenges facing
teachers in the context of special needs education. This research should serve as a
reference for novice teachers in emphasizing that good K-13 curriculum learning at all
levels must involve preparation for its implementation and its assessment.
Recommendations for the value of ongoing research of this nature with a broader cohort
of teachers are made.
Physical activity is one of the vital components of students with disabilities during the COVID-19 pandemic, which is endemic in various countries, including Indonesia. The purpose of the study was to determine the level of physical activity of students with disabilities during the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants of this study were 17 students with disabilities (intellectual disability, hearing impairment, speech impairment) aged 8-14 years. This research used a quantitative descriptive research method. The tool used was the Children's Physical Activity Questionnaire (PAQ-C) distributed through Google Forms. Data analysis included quantitative descriptive statistics analysis and the analytical need testing using IBM SPSS 24 applications. The results showed that the physical activity of students with disabilities during the COVID-19 pandemic was mostly distributed in the low category, nine students (50%). This study implied that students should maintain and increase physical activity by doing light physical activity at least 30 minutes a day and maintaining immunity by eating nutritious foods such as vitamins, fruits, vegetables, and healthy foods to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. It will be interesting to study adaptive learning more deeply during pandemics in a broad scope in Indonesia for further research.
This study was aimed at developing a new model of resistance-based strength training for junior tennis athletes and examining its effectiveness on their serve performance compared to traditional model of training. It is a Research and Development study focusing on developing, validating, revising, and testing the model of training. In testing phase, effectiveness test was accomplished to examine the effectiveness of the new training model and compared to the effectiveness of the traditional model. There were 60 junior athletes contributing to this study. The data were gathered by distributing questionnaires to reveal the convenience and attractiveness of the model developed and using Collang Smart Tennis Racket Sensor Tracker Motion Analyzer to reveal the tennis athletes' serve performance. The data were analyzed by employing descriptive statistic and t-test. In terms of convenience and attractiveness, this study revealed that the use of resistance training for junior tennis athletes showed good results. T-test proved that this new model was more effective in improving players' serve speed compared to traditional model was. Thus, researchers concluded that the new model of resistance-based training can be implemented to increase tennis junior players' serve speed.
