Brazil has highlighted the world's milk production, ranking fifth among the largest producers. Goiás ranks fourth in the ranking of states that produce milk with increased prospects over the years. The objective of this study describe about the effects of heat stress in the production of dairy cows. Heat stress influences the production and chemical composition of the milk, environment supply the making fundamental that provides thermal comfort to the animals. Seasonal variations influence the quality and quantity of milk produced, and animals of Indian origin (Bos indicus) are more tolerant to the tropical climate, when compared with European origin of animals (Bos taurus), because of their greater ability to sweat and lower metabolic rate. However is right, the need for investment in facilities to enable environments with minimal conditions of temperature and relative humidity, which favors the production increase and improve the quality of milk produced.
Several methods have been used by researchers to determine the optimum size of experimental plot and control of experimental error, the most widespread are: empirical method of Smith (1938), method of visual inspection of maximum curvature (Federer, 1955), method of maximum curvature coefficient of variation (Lessman & Atkins, 1963). Some methods of segmented model adjustment was recently proposed to (linear with plateau) to determine the optimum plot size (Paranaiba et al., 2009). All methods mentioned above have used data from assays for measuring uniformity variability between possible plot sizes. The data used in this study were obtained through computer simulation data of a uniformity test. The goal proposed in this paper is to use statistical techniques to determine the optimal sample size. We conclude the optimum plot size was achieved by the method of maximum curvature coefficient of variation which showed a R2 of 0.9818
The knowledge of the concentration levels of heavy metals in the environment and their dissemination in soil and water are of paramount importance in environmental studies, as one of the indicators of "measuring" the balance of biodiversity and the stability of ecosystems. The objective of this study was to study the spatial distribution of two heavy metals (Copper and Cadmium) along the banks of the Meuse River, in order to measure the levels of contamination by these metals. Cd and Cu concentration data were sampled at 155 georeferenced points. These data were obtained in the program R in the package "gstat" whose database is called "Meuse". The data analysis methodology consisted in adjusting semivariograms for spatial dependence analysis, and the spherical and Gaussian models were adjusted for the copper and cadmium concentration, respectively. The degree of spatial dependence was classified as strong for the copper concentration and moderate for the cadmium concentration. The estimation of the concentration of these heavy metals in non-sampled points was done using the kriging

Genetic research on the coffee culture, have had great expansion and, in most cases, the samples consist of collecting leaves or fruits in different plants constituting sampling in more than one stage. In two-stage sampling or sub-sampling, designated hierarchical sampling, the population is N_1 primary units and each primary unit by N_2 individuals. n_1 primary units are selected, and each selected n_2 individuals. To determine the optimal size of the biological sample is necessary to have data obtained from experiments conducted well and faithfully express the variability between coffee plants and fruits, from plants for conditions which may vary according to the studiedgenes. In general, the size of the biological sample used may be underestimated due mainly to the relationship between the variances and cost ratio.
The efficiency of family farmers irrigation is conditioned by several factors such as good quality water supply. In this context, it was to evaluate the salinity and physical, chemical, and bacteriological characteristics of water harvested from roofs for irrigation of crops by family farmers in Brazil. The experiment was conducted at the Federal Institute Goiano, in Rio Verde, Goiás, Brazil. The rainwater collected on the roofs was sent through vertical and horizontal conductors to the storage tank, which has a capacity of 5000 L. The risk of salinity, pH, turbidity, conductivity, color, total dissolved solids and thermotolerant coliforms during 13 precipitation events was analyzed. Rainwater was classified as water with no salinity problem (EC < 0.7). The variation of the electrical conductivity (EC) and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) were similar during the collection period, with mean values of 0.05 dS m-1 and 29.72 mg L-1 for EC and TDS, respectively. The pH of the rainwater presented little variation, presenting a mean of 7.37. The mean value of the color of rainwater was 11.45 PtCo L-1, while the turbidity averaged 4.89 UT. During the period of rainwater harvesting, it was observed absence of thermotolerant coliforms in all samples. It is concluded that rainwater does not present restrictions on the risk of salinity and that all physical-chemical and bacteriological parameters analyzed are within the limits allowed by Resolution 357/2005 of CONAMA, indicating the propensity of this type of water for irrigation.
