Resumo Este estudo investigou, a partir de abordagem qualitativa, o uso de tecnologias internet no apoio à inovação de produtos em empresas brasileiras. Uma revisão de escopo da literatura evidenciou os principais usos destas tecnologias para cada estágio da inovação. A abordagem mostrou que as empresas inovadoras entrevistadas utilizam, principalmente, as redes sociais no suporte às atividades de inovação, mas existem relatos de investimentos em plataformas de cocriação. No contexto do estudo, considerando o processo de desenvolvimento de novos produtos, as tecnologias internet podem ser utilizadas conforme o estágio de inovação. As tecnologias de suporte básico podem disponibilizar informações para todos os estágios da inovação. Os estágios iniciais, como ideação, projeto e teste, necessitam de informações mais direcionadas, as quais podem ser providas pelas tecnologias como ferramentas de competição de ideias, plataformas de cocriação e web mining. Por fim, as tecnologias blogs, wikis, fóruns de discussão e redes sociais sustentam informações para os estágios finais (lançamento e suporte) do processo de inovação de produtos.
PurposeThis article aims to understand the dynamics between disruptive innovations and innovation ecosystems, using disruption business models as a catalyst.Design/methodology/approachThis study presents an integrative literature review and a theoretical framework in order to integrate the theories of disruptions and ecosystems.FindingsThe dynamics of disruptive innovation, within an ecosystem, as an essential driver of creating new markets. The effect of creative destruction from a disruption influences business models in a coopetitive dynamic that drives the ecosystem as a whole.Research limitations/implicationsLimited to theoretical research and suggested the application of the proposed model in an empirical study.Practical implicationsUnderstand the formation of new ecosystems based on the occurrence of a disruption as a way for organisations to prepare for the arrival of this new market.Originality/valueThe contribution of this study is based on joining the literature of disruptive innovation and innovation ecosystem, pointing to a theoretical framework and a flow of Evolution and Adaptation to the Disruptive Ecosystem that integrates this complex dynamic.
Purpose
This paper aims to analyse the technological, economic and environmental impacts of disruptive innovations in the transportation mobility market.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper gathered data from World Bank and 13 open sources in an exploratory, descriptive and applied investigation on potentially disruptive transport innovations outcomes in G7 and BRICS (Brazil, Russian Federation, India, China and South Africa) economies, businesses and societies.
Findings
The results suggest positive implications for technological leapfrogging of electric vehicles (EV), autonomous vehicles (AVs) and electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOLs), such as gains in energy consumption, infrastructure improvement, greenhouse gas emissions reduction, economic growth and the opportunity for new disruptive technologies to improve or even revolutionize the transportation ecosystem.
Research limitations/implications
This study has clear limitations as it compares G7 and BRICS hypothetical scenarios where internal combustion vehicles were replaced by new technologies, ceteris paribus. Even so, as theoretical implications, the study presents market scenarios for EVs, AVs and eVTOLs technologies, bringing benefits to the disruptive innovation theory by expanding the understanding of the subject and also opening avenues of investigation by exploring new technological, economic and environmental possibilities.
Practical implications
This study emphasises potentially disruptive technologies’ technological, economic and sustainable benefits to countries through technological leapfrogging. The organizations can delve into results to investigate forthcoming markets and seek advantageous positions. Economic and social gains from leapfrogging could motivate government bodies to finance research focusing on EVs, AVs and eVTOLs diffusion.
Originality/value
The paper’s originality resides in aggregating multiple data sources to compare technological leapfrogging in G7 and BRICS transportation. The different views allowed for exploring the potential outcomes of EVs, AVs and eVTOLs on economic, sustainability and market dimensions in developed and developing countries.
Online social networks made up of actors with different degrees of innovativeness may allow knowledge management to collect new ideas and measure their acceptance. This research investigates consumer innovativeness and relationships with the uses and participation in social networks. This research has a quantitative exploratory scope, and among the main findings, we can mention that the dimensions of the adopted scale were corroborated by using factor analysis. The findings cannot be generalized, but there are evidences that relationship between social networking and innovative consumer behavior exists. Although there are limitations, correlations were found between the social dimension of innovativeness and information search in the networks and also the use of social networking information for the decision to purchase new products.
This article reviews the state of the literature on consumption at the bottom of the pyramid and summarizes the studies' suggestions for future research. This study was conducted using data from the Web of Science and Scopus databases with the help of CiteSpace and CitNetExplorer 1.0.0. This research is justified due to: (a) absence of a broad systematization of the theme; (b) contribution and encouragement of new researchers to take part in studies on the subject; and (c) indication of a broad international literature that can encourage studies on consumption at the base of the pyramid.
