<p>O objetivo deste trabalho foi caracterizar a composição florística, estrutura e distribuição espacial das espécies arbóreas em uma floresta de terra firme no Estado do Amapá. Foram coletados dados dendrométricos e florísticos em 200 unidades amostrais terciárias, sendo analisadas as árvores com diâmetro a 1,30 m do solo (DAP) ≥ 40 cm. Foram calculados parâmetros fitossociológicos, distribuição espacial e índice de diversidade de Shannon. No levantamento foram amostrados 4.030 indivíduos arbóreos, distribuídos em 37 famílias e 201 espécies, sendo <em>Goupia glabra </em>(cupiúba) a espécie de maior valor de importância (VI). A área florestal apresenta características de floresta preservada. A amostragem revelou que a vegetação arbórea ocorre com maior proporção de espécies com distribuição espacial aleatória, no entanto, as espécies como maior VI se distribuíram de forma agregada na área.</p>

O projeto "Paisagens em Branco: Arqueologia e Antropologia Antárticas" é resultado de uma colaboração internacional (coordenada pelo Brasil) e tem como objetivo estudar os processos de ocupação humana da Antártica. Com início em 2009, tem produzido diversos resultados, a partir das novas linhas de pesquisa desenvolvidas. Neste artigos nos propomos efetuar um balanço das informações geradas, assim como dos principais desafios a futuro.

-Monitoring analyses aim to understand the processes that drive changes in forest structure and, along with prediction studies, may assist in the management planning and conservation of forest remnants. The objective of this study was to analyze the forest dynamics in two Atlantic rainforest fragments in Pernambuco, Brazil, and to predict their future forest diameter structure using the Markov chain model. We used continuous forest inventory data from three surveys in two forest fragments of 87 ha (F1) and 388 ha (F2). We calculated the annual rates of mortality and recruitment, the mean annual increment, and the basal area for each of the 3-year periods. Data from the first and second surveys were used to project the third inventory measurements, which were compared to the observed values in the permanent plots using chi-squared tests ( = 0.05). In F1, a decrease in the number of individuals was observed due to mortality rates being higher than recruitment rates; however, there was an increase in the basal area. In this fragment, the fit to the Markov model was adequate. In F2, there was an increase in both the basal area and the number of individuals during the 6-year period due to the recruitment rate exceeding the mortality rate. For this fragment, the fit of the model was unacceptable. Hence, for the studied fragments, the demographic rates influenced the stem density more than the floristic composition. Yet, even with these intense dynamics, both fragments showed active growth.Keywords: Environmental monitoring; Markov; Plant biometrics.DINÂMICA E PREDIÇÃO DA ESTRUTURA DIAMÉTRICA DE DOIS FRAGMENTOS DE FLORESTA ATLÂNTICA NO NORDESTE DO BRASIL RESUMO -Análises de monitoramento possibilitam o entendimento dos processos que levam a mudanças na estrutura da floresta e, juntamente com estudos de predição, podem auxiliar no planejamento do manejo e conservação de remanescentes florestais. O objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar a dinâmica de dois fragmentos de Floresta Atlântica no estado de Pernambuco, Brasil e predizer a estrutura diamétrica, empregando o modelo de cadeia de Markov. Foram utilizados dados do inventário florestal contínuo com três ocasiões, para dois fragmentos florestais, com 87 ha (F1) e 388 ha (F2). Foram calculadas taxas anuais de mortalidade e recrutamento, incremento médio anual e área basal para todos os períodos analisados. Os dados obtidos na 1ª e 2ª ocasiões foram utilizados para realizar a projeção para 3ª ocasião, que foi comparada aos dados observados nas parcelas permanentes empregando o teste Qui-quadrado ( = 0.05). -The objective of this work was to analyze the spatial distribution and the behavior of species richness and diversity in a shrub savanna fragment, in 2003 and 2014, using ordinary kriging, in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. In both evaluation years, the measurements were performed in a fragment with 236.85 hectares, in which individual trees were measured and identified across 40 plots (1,000 m 2 ). Species richness was determined by the total number of species in each plot, and diversity by the Shannon diversity index. For the variogram study, spatial models were fitted and selected. Then, ordinary kriging was applied and the spatial distribution of the assessed variables was described. A strong spatial dependence was observed between species richness and diversity by the Shannon diversity index (<25% spatial dependence degree). Areas of low and high species diversity and richness were found in the shrub savanna fragment. Spatial distribution behavior shows relative stability regarding the number of species and the Shannon diversity index in the evaluated years.Index terms: geostatistics, Shannon index, variogram. Nos dois anos de monitoramento, as avaliações foram realizadas em um fragmento de 236,85 hectares, em que indivíduos arbóreos foram medidos e identificados em 40 parcelas (1.000 m 2 ). A riqueza foi determinada pelo número de espécies em cada parcela, e a diversidade, pelo índice de diversidade de Shannon. Para o estudo variográfico, foram realizados ajuste e seleção de modelos espaciais. Posteriormente, foi aplicada krigagem ordinária e descrita a distribuição espacial das variáveis avaliadas. Observou-se forte dependência espacial entre riqueza e diversidade de espécies pelo índice de diversidade de Shannon (<25% de grau de dependência espacial). Áreas de baixa e alta diversidade e riqueza de espécies foram identificadas no fragmento de campo cerrado. Height measurements are essential to manage and monitor forest biomass and carbon stocks. However, accurate estimation of this variable in tropical ecosystems is still difficult due to species heterogeneity and environmental variability. In this article, we compare and discuss six nonlinear allometric models parameterized at different scales (local, regional and pantropical). We also evaluate the height measurements obtained in the field by the hypsometer when compared with the true tree height. We used a dataset composed of 180 harvested trees in two distinct areas located in the Amapá State. The functional form of the Weibull model was the best local model, showing similar performance to the pantropical model. The inaccuracy detected in the hypsometer estimates reinforces the importance of incorporating new technologies in measuring individual tree heights. Establishing accurate allometric models requires knowledge of ecophysiological and environmental processes that govern vegetation dynamics and tree height growth. It is essential to investigate the influence of different species and ecological gradients on the diameter/height ratio.
