Health literacy, a more complex concept than knowledge, is a required capacity to obtain, understand, integrate and act on health information [1], in order to enhance individual and community health, which is defined by different levels, according to the autonomy and personal capacitation in decision making [2]. Medium levels of Health literacy in an adolescent population were found in a study conducted in 2013/2014, being higher in sexual and reproductive health and lower in substance use. It was also noticed that the higher levels of health literacy were in the area adolescents refer to have receipt more health information. The health literacy competence with higher scores was communication skills, and the lower scores were in the capacity to analyze factors that influence health. Higher levels were also found in younger teenagers, but in a higher school level, confirming the importance of health education in these age and development stage. Adolescents seek more information in health professionals and parents, being friends more valued as a source information in older adolescents, which enhance the importance of peer education mainly in older adolescents [3]. As a set of competences based on knowledge, health literacy should be developed through education interventions, encompassing the cultural and social context of individuals, since the society, culture and education system where the individual is inserted can define the way the development and enforcement of the health literacy competences [4]. The valued sources of information should be taken into account, as well as needs of information in some topics referred by adolescents in an efficient health education. Throughout history, Sexuality Education (SE) has undergone many changes in formal education curricula. The education systems should incorporate SE and promote an understanding of sexuality from the critical perspective of gender. Objectives: To examine the approach to SE in young people in Spain and Portugal, considering the incorporation of the gender perspective, and analyze the legislation in both countries. A scoping review was conducted considering studies with SE programs, gender perspective, and legislation in Spanish, Portuguese, and English, without any time limits. The population consisted of young people aged 10 to 18 years who did not attend higher education. Databases used: CINAHL Complete, ERIC, LILACS, SciELO, MEDLINE, Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection, Scopus, Open Access Scientific Repository of Portugal, Base de Datos de Tesis Doctorales, Theses and Dissertations Online, and governmental websites. Thirty-two studies were found, including intervention, diagnosis, and documental programs. Eight of the studies adopted the gender perspective. Legislation in both countries is vast, with 23 main references. Although SE is legislated in both countries, the social-health and educational programs are insufficient. The relevance of the gender perspective is not incorporated into SE.
Theoretical framework: Coping with death allows dealing with death on a daily basis and is a key measure to assess the impact of professional training on the topic. Objectives: To translate and validate the Coping with Death Scale (Bugen, 1980-81) into Portuguese among Portuguese nurses. Methodology: Exploratory study of translation/back-translation, followed by psychometric analysis in a sample of 107 nurses working in oncology services. Results: The scale showed high internal consistency (α = 0.89). Following the study on validity, four items from the original version were deleted, and the two-factor solution was maintained (coping with one's own death and coping with the death of others). No gender differences were found. Nurses with training in palliative care had higher levels of coping. Conclusion: The Portuguese version is useful to understand how healthcare professionals cope with death and assess the effectiveness of training in coping with death and dying.
Retirement is a transitional life event that originates changes individuals have to adapt to and which leads to bio physiological, psychological and sociological vulnerabilities. The aim of this study was to understand how Portuguese retirees perceive their retirement experience. We conducted a qualitative study with 18 focus groups (146 participants recently retired), in health functional units located throughout the center region of mainland Portugal. Information was submitted to content analysis, using NVivo10(r). Findings reveal that retirement interferes not only in the individuals' experiences but also affects their families' experiences. It leads to simultaneously perceptions of gains and losses and to the relearning and re-adaptation of life. We conclude that retirement is a transition phase of human development that can require an individual and family nursing intervention, which can help to promote a successful ageing process.

Resumo Resumen R E S E A R C H P A P E R ( O R I G I N A L )Experiences of spontaneous abortion in primigravidae during the first trimester of pregnancy: a phenomenological studyVivências da interrupção espontânea da gravidez em primigestas no primeiro trimestre gestacional: um estudo fenomenológico Experiencias de la interrupción espontánea del embarazo en primerizas en el primer trimestre gestacional: un estudio fenomenológico.Ana Paula Forte Camarneiro*; Juraci Conceição Silveira Cardoso Maciel**; Rosa Maria Garcia da Silveira*** Theoretical framework: Spontaneous Abortion (SA) in primigravidae triggers complex emotional reactions that occur outside the healthcare services. Objectives: To understand the experience of SA in primigravidae during the first trimester of pregnancy.Methodology: Qualitative and phenomenological study. The sample is purposive and composed of six participants. Data were obtained using open interviews and analysed based on Loureiro's (2002;2006) proposal. Both contextual reliability and transferability were ensured. Results: The essence of the phenomenon is the shattering of a dream that results from the sudden deprivation of a desired pregnancy and motherhood. The structure found is divided into three central themes: experience of negative feelings; inner elaboration; desire to ensure motherhood. These themes coexist over time, although they manifest themselves differently. Conclusion: SA is an early pregnancy loss which brings about significant negative emotions and an effort of personal reorganisation, thus requiring attention and supervision by the healthcare professionals.
