Este trabalho teve como objetivo realizar levantamento florístico e estrutural em um fragmento florestal urbano no Parque Ecológico Municipal José Milanese, no município de Criciúma, Santa Catarina, sul do Brasil, enfatizando a importância deste fragmento para a conservação de espécies ameaçadas. O levantamento consistiu na instalação de 100 parcelas contíguas de 10 × 10 m em Floresta Ombrófila Densa Submontana, sendo amostradas todas as espécies arborescentes com diâmetro à altura do peito (DAP) ≥ 5 cm. Foram registradas 137 espécies, sendo Myrtaceae a família mais rica. Cryptocarya moschata Nees & Mart. apresentou o maior valor de importância, principalmente pelo maior diâmetro de seus caules, seguida por Psychotria vellosiana Benth., Myrcia pubipetala Miq. e Guatteria australis A.St.-Hil., evidenciando a possibilidade de suas utilizações em programas de restauração ecológica em fragmentos florestais da região. Conclui-se que o fragmento estudado apresenta elevada riqueza específica, quando comparado com outros na região, tornando-o uma importante fonte de propágulos para áreas adjacentes. Além disso, o conhecimento produzido a partir deste estudo poderá fornecer alternativas de uso e manejo em áreas similares, ou mesmo, ambientes florestais alterados, de forma geral.
Inventários biológicos são importantes ferramentas para o conhecimento da biodiversidade e auxiliam no entendimento das alterações provenientes de processos antrópicos ou naturais. Inventários de comunidades de abelhas são especialmente relevantes e ainda escassos em ambiente de restinga na região sul do Estado de Santa Catarina. Nosso objetivo foi analisar a comunidade de abelhas em área de restinga arbórea no município de Araranguá, extremo sul catarinense.
A dispersão de sementes por aves é um processo importante para a manutenção e conservação dos ecossistemas, pois aumenta as possibilidades de recrutamento das espécies vegetais com a diminuição da mortalidade densidade-dependente. Na Mata Atlântica, as palmeiras estão entre as principais famílias que disponibilizam grande quantidade de frutos carnosos adaptados à dispersão zoocórica e, consequentemente, são favorecidas pelo processo de dispersão de sementes pela fauna. Entre as espécies de palmeiras, Euterpe edulis Mart. destaca-se como espécie-chave para a fauna, devido a sua alta produção de frutos e a sua abundância neste bioma. Com base na importância de E. edulis como espécie abundante na Mata Atlântica e como fonte de alimento para a fauna, foi realizado um estudo abordando sua ecologia e etnoecologia em uma área de 1,5 ha no Parque Estadual da Serra Furada, região sul de Santa Catarina. Durante dois anos foi registrada a fenologia reprodutiva da espécie, através da observação mensal de 30 indivíduos, sendo acompanhada a presença de estruturas reprodutivas e a duração das fenofases floração, frutos verdes e frutos maduros. Foi acompanhada também a interação de aves frugívoras com a espécie em estudo durante o período de disponibilidade de frutos maduros nos anos de 2015 e 2016, através de observações árvore-focal e foi analisada a chuva de sementes com o uso de coletores de sementes. Como uma forma de complementar as informações obtidas no capítulo anterior, foi realizada pesquisa etnoecológica com os moradores da comunidade de Chapadão, situada no entorno do PAESF, com objetivo de registrar o conhecimento da população sobre as interações da avifauna com o palmiteiro, além de identificar quais espécies de aves eram alvo de caça no local. Posteriormente foi analisado o tempo de retenção de sementes de E. edulis no trato digestivo de Ramphastos dicolorus e Ortalis squamata. Além disso, foi acompanhada a influência deste tempo de retenção, da despolpa por Saltator similis, da despolpa manual e da presença de polpa sobre a taxa de germinação e o índice de velocidade de germinação.A fenologia reprodutiva apresentou correlação da floração com a temperatura nos dois anos de estudo, enquanto a fenofase frutos maduros não apresentou nenhuma correlação com as variáveis climáticas. O número de espécies consumindo os frutos de E. edulis foi baixo (três), e as espécies indicam uma certa redundância no processo de dispersão de sementes. As informações das entrevistas foram confrontadas com os resultados obtidos no segundo capítulo desta tese e com uma lista de abundância de aves frugívoras no PAESF, indicando a redução de grandes frugívoros no local. O tempo de retenção das duas espécies foi igual, porém a velocidade de germinação foi superior para as sementes regurgitadas por R. dicolorus, enquanto a taxa de germinação foi maior para as sementes defecadas e regurgitadas por O. squamata. Os resultados obtidos das sementes despolpadas por S. similis, sugerem que a remoção parcial da polpa age como facilitador da germinação.
O estudo foi realizado em um fragmento urbano de Floresta Ombrófila Densa das Terras Baixas, no município de São João do Sul, sul de Santa Catarina, com o objetivo de identificar a época de frutificação das espécies vegetais arbustivo-arbóreas e suas estratégias de dispersão. Foram marcados um a três indivíduos de cada espécie vegetal que estava frutificando, classificado sua estratégia de dispersão e, quinzenalmente, foi realizado acompanhamento do estágio de maturação dos frutos, no período de novembro/2009 a setembro/2010. Foram encontradas 18 espécies vegetais com frutos pertencentes a dez famílias botânicas. Melastomataceae, Myrtaceae e Rubiaceae foram às famílias mais representativas com quatro espécies cada uma. Ocorreu disponibilidade de frutos durante todo o ano. A zoocoria foi a estratégia de dispersão encontrada em 17 espécies e a autocoria em apenas uma espécie. Os resultados evidenciam a realização de mais estudos sobre a fenologia e estratégias de dispersão de diásporos das espécies vegetais em fragmentos urbanos com inclusão de diferentes hábitos, visto que foi encontrado um número baixo de espécies arbóreas e arbustivas com frutos.
Considerando à importância da interação entre Euterpe edulis Mart. e aves frugívoras, este estudo buscou compreender a situação da caça e das interações ecológicas da avifauna com a espécie. em uma Unidade de Conservação (UC) de Proteção Integral no sul de Santa Catarina. Foi realizada uma pesquisa etnoecológica durante o mês de julho de 2016, através de entrevistas semiestruturadas com oito moradores da comunidade do entorno do Parque. Foram citadas 10 espécies de aves alvos de caça na área e oito consumidoras dos frutos do palmiteiro, sendo seis descritas na literatura. As espécies de aves de grande porte, consideradas as principais dispersoras de sementes do palmiteiro, eram os principais alvos da caça dos colonizadores para alimentação e a redução de suas populações traz importantes alterações na dispersão das sementes de E. edulis, podendo levar à redução do recrutamento, bem como a alterações genéticas significativas para as populações futuras.
