Life and death constitute a whole, and these concepts become increasingly important in the evaluation of life among middleaged adults. Therefore, this study investigated the correlation between individual levels of death anxiety and meaning in life in terms of certain variables such as gender, age, educational status, marital status, perceived level of devoutness, and witness to death. The sample consisted of 185 individuals (82 males, 103 females; aged 25-55 years) living in Istanbul, Turkey. The data was collected by using a Personal Information Form, the Death Anxiety Scale, and the Meaning in Life Questionnaire. The findings showed that, as the death anxiety and meaning in life subscale levels increased, the meaning in life levels decreased. In addition, it was found that death anxiety does not differ according to the following variables: age (25-35 and 35-55 years), educational status, marital status, perceived religious belief, and living with someone. The results also indicated that women tend to experience more death anxiety than men, and that individuals who witnessed the death of a close person generally feel more death anxiety than those who did not.

Background and Design: Although the etiology of chronic urticaria is not clear, autoimmune and inflammatory activities are suspected. We aimed to determine the relationship of serum sex hormone levels with disease severity and autologous serum skin test (ASST) positivity in chronic urticaria patients on the basis of the fact that sex hormones have a regulatory role on the functions of inflammatory cells. Materials and Methods: Fifty female chronic urticaria patients and 25 age-matched healthy females were included. In the patient group, severity of illness was determined and ASST was performed. Serum prolactin, dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate (DHEA-S), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), estradiol, progesterone and total testosterone levels in both groups were recorded. Results: There was no significant difference in the severity of illness between ASST (-) and ASST (+) patients. DHEA-S levels in ASST (-) and ASST (+) groups were compared, and significantly lower levels were detected in the patient group. There was no significant correlation between ASST positivity and DHEA-S levels. There was no significant difference in other hormone levels between control and patient groups. It was also found that there was no significant difference in LH/FSH levels between patient and control groups. Conclusion: In chronic urticaria patients, DHEA-S and total androgens, progesterone levels which have anti-inflammatory effects are expected to be lower, and estrogen and prolactin levels which have proinflamatory effects are expected to be higher. The reason that there was no significant difference between patient and control groups in levels other than DHEA-S may be due to the fact that these hormone levels are not directly related with autoreactivity and/or chronic urticaria.

The present study aimed at revealing the individual innovativeness levels of teachers working at secondary schools and conducting an in-depth examination on the reasons of the behaviors in their category of innovativeness, and on the factors that affected their individual innovativeness. It was designed as a mixed method research in which quantitative and qualitative research techniques were used together. The quantitative data were collected through the "Individual Innovativeness Scale" and the qualitative data were gathered through a semi-structured interview form created by the researcher. The study group in the quantitative phase of the study consisted of 411 secondary school teachers while the participants in the qualitative phase included 20 teachers picked among those in quantitative phase based on the maximum diversity sampling method. Descriptive statistics were used in the analysis of quantitative data, and content analysis method was preferred for the analysis of qualitative data. According to the individual innovativeness scores, it was concluded that the majority of the participating teachers considered themselves to be low-level innovators and were placed in the early majority category of innovativeness. It has been found that no one to take place in the laggard category of individual innovativeness. In addition, it was observed that teachers had the highest mean for the subdimension of openness to experience and the lowest mean for the sub-dimension of resistance to change. It was found that being an investigator, being accepted to be a leader, uncertainty brought about by innovation and their skeptical behaviors against change caused the teachers to categorize their quality of innovativeness. Finally, it was revealed that the individual innovativeness behaviors of teachers were affected by individual, environmental and professional factors.
