This research is focused on creolized or polycode texts functioning in pedagogical discourse and the ways of text adaptation by means of creolization. With the development of modern ways of communication, the number of texts combining verbal and non-verbal components has dramatically increased. In modern communication non-verbal component may be represented by pictures, photos, different printing types and colour coding, video and audio components. Due to their high efficiency such texts are used in all kinds of discourse: pedagogical, political, medical etc. One of the purposes of pedagogical discourse is the presentation of new information to students. This information should be adapted to the conceptual system of the addressee in order to facilitate the perception. Creolized or polycode texts often perform this function. According to our research, means of creolization can be used in adaptation of a notion, situational, motivational, and intensifying adaptation.

Do-It-Yourself discourse (DIY discourse) is communication aimed at teaching laymen to do professional processes and exchanging experiences in professional spheres. It is a very called-for tool for non-vocational training. DIY discourse comprises non-verbal, verbal, and polycode texts. In this research we analyzed general characteristics of DIY discourse. On the first stage of our research we selected articles from www.wikihow.com that teach the lay audience how to do different things. On the second stage of the research we analyzed genres that occur in the computer-mediated environment and polycode texts that represent the computer-mediated communication (CMC) in the DIY discourse. From a semiotic point of view, non-verbal texts are an emblem of a professional process, verbal texts provide a symbol side, and polycode texts combine an emblem and a symbol. We have found out that DIY discourse comprises several genres with different semiotic codes. It can have non-verbal, verbal and polycode format. We have come to the conclusion that polycode texts are the specific feature of computer-mediated communication. They are widely employed in DIY discourse to achieve a more profound comprehension of the professional processes.

The purpose of the article is to describe visual context as one of the possible means of teaching technical translation. Using multimodal visual contexts, a student of technical translation is able to assimilate technical knowledge at the stage of pre-translation, which leads to understanding the content of a technical text and, as a result, to high-quality conscious translation. The work has stated that visual material is more efficiently classified in terms of its most important functions and in terms of its connection with the real world that it represents. Therefore, I proposed to take into account the following characteristics of the visual material: visual or verbal ways of presenting knowledge should be related in time and space; when choosing visual materials, excessive information should be avoided; dynamic phenomena are better represented through animation; highly interactive elements should be presented separately for beginners. Among these characteristics there are two main ones-iconicity and dynamism. The results of a comparative analysis of technical texts about the oil and gas industry showed that contexts are differentiated, taking into account two main characteristics of images, into the following types: static verbal-visual contexts with a low level of knowledge, static visual contexts with a low level of knowledge, dynamic verbal-visual contexts with a high level of knowledge, and dynamic visual contexts with a high level of knowledge.
