Abstract. The aging process occurs in all parts of the body including the face. One of the factors that can influence this process is free radicals which can be suppressed by antioxidants. Grapes (Vitis vinifera) are known to contain high antioxidant compounds. This research was conducted to determine the anti-aging activity of grape ethanol extract (V. vinifera) in clay mask preparations. Grape ethanol extract obtained by maceration and formulated in clay mask dosage form with 4 concentrations namely FI (2.5%), FII (5%), FIII (7.5%) and F0 as a control. A total of 12 volunteers who met the inclusion criteria were applied to the mask every week for 4 weeks and evaluated the water content, smoothness, large pores, many blemishes and facial skin wrinkles before and after application in each treatment. Mask stability was evaluated for 12 weeks at room temperature. Data were analyzed by the Kruskal Wallis and Friedman tests. After 4 weeks of treatment, the highest changes including humidity (12.63%), pore size (50%), blemishes (57.32%) and wrinkles (75.69%) were found in FIII. While changes in skin smoothness were found in FII by 34.04%. There was a significant moisture difference between F0-FIII (p <0.05), a significant difference in evenness between F0-FI, F0-FII and F0-FIII (p <0.05), a significant difference in spots between F0-FIII (p < 0.05) and significant differences in wrinkles between F0-FIII (p <0.05). Grape ethanol extract in clay mask preparations has anti-aging activity.

Asparagus is a vegetable that contains phenolic compounds with antioxidant properties that scavenges aging-triggering free radicals. This study aimed to investigate the components and anti-aging potentials of Ethanol Extract form Asparagus (EEA). The study was performed in February 2020 at the Pharmacy Laboratory, University of North Sumatera. The EEA was obtained through maceration using 96% ethanol. An antioxidant assay was performed and the total phenol and flavodoid content were determined using the spectroscopic method. Three gel formulas with different concentrations of EEA was prepared (F1: 1.5%, F2: 2.5%, and F3: 3.5%), and F0 was used as control. The parameters evaluated were moisture, oil content, texture, collagen, wrinkle, pigment, sensitivity, and pore. The result showed that asparagus had a moderate antioxidant activity (IC50: 118,992) with the total phenol and flavonoid contents of 15,9407 mg GAE/g and 3,2286 mg QE/g extract, respectively. The highest aging activities was seen in F3 (3.5%), followed by F2 (2.5%) and F1 (1.5%). The percentage of moisture, oil, texture, collagen, wrinkle, spot, sensitivity, and pore recovery were found to be 40.15%, 49.73%, 71.76%, 17.70%, 70.93%, 49.34%, 42.56% and 25.31%, respectively. Hence, it can be concluded that the EEA Gel at the highest concentration (3.5%) has a high content of phenol and flavonoid which can improve the skin moisture, oil content, texture, collagen, wrinkles, spots, sensitivity, and pores, which promotes anti-aging activities.

Azolla (Azolla filiculoides Lam.) merupakan tanaman paku air dari famili Azollaceae. Azolla filiculoides digunakan sebagai pakan alami dengan ketersediaannya melimpah di alam yang belum termanfaatkan secara optimal. Tanaman ini dapat bersimbiosis dengan Cyanobacteria. Azolla memiliki senyawa bioaktif yang berfungsi sebagai antioksidan dan inhibitor tirosinase. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menguji aktivitas antioksidan menggunakan metode DPPH (2.2-difenil 1-pikrihidrasil ) dan daya hambat tirosinase pada ekstrak etanol Azolla filiculoides. Ekstraksi menggunakan metode maserasi dan pelarut etanol 96%. Hasil uji fitokimia menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak etanol Azolla mengandung senyawa flavonoid, tanin, saponin, steroid dan triterpenoid. Kandungan fitokimia tersebut berpotensi sebagai antioksidan dan inhibitor tirosinase, terutama senyawa flavonoid dan tanin. Uji aktivitas antioksidan menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak etanol Azolla filiculoides memiliki aktivitas antioksidan yang kuat dengan nilai IC50 sebesar 23.00 ppm. Uji aktivitas inhibisi tirosinase ekstrak azolla menunjukkan daya hambat yang lebih efektif pada aktivitas diphenolase (IC50 996.60 ppm) dibandingkan aktivitas monophenolase (IC50 1893.09 ppm).
