The Role of Self‐Construals in the Link Between Anger Regulation and Externalizing Problems in Korean American Adolescents: Testing a Moderated Mediation Model

Abstract: These findings suggest that clinical intervention efforts for addressing externalizing problems may benefit from targeting anger regulation strategies. However, such interventions should be tailored to consider cultural context, since mediation effects may be moderated by cultural factors such as self-construal.

“…Empirical evidence of these two theoretical core propositions, however, has produced mixed results. To illustrate, some studies find a significant association [ 11 ], while others show support for a cross-sectional and a longitudinal link between family violence and low adolescent self-control [ 12 ], and again other studies find a cross-sectional but not a longitudinal association [ 13 , 14 ], or find an effect from low self-control to family violence but no evidence for the reverse relation [ 15 , 16 ]. To shed light on the relation between family violence and self-control, this paper aims to summarize and quantify the association between family violence and self-control across adolescence through applying a three-level meta-analysis.…”

“…İlişkisel bağımlı benlik kurgusu, bireylerin kendi duygularını dışa vurmasını engellenmekte ve diğer bireylerle uyumlu etkileşim kurmasına ve sürdürmesine teşvik etmektedir (Trommsdorff & Rothbaum, 2008). Bu görüşü destekler nitelikte sahip olunan bağımlı benlik kurgusunun duygu düzenleme, özellikle öfke düzenleme becerisi ile olan ilişkisinin araştırıldığı çalışmalara bakıldığında, yüksek bağımlı benlik kurgusuna sahip bireylerde öfkeyi baskılamanın düşük bağımlı benlik kurgusuna sahip bireylere göre daha az depresif semptoma neden olduğu sonucuna ulaşmıştır (Cheung & Park, 2010;Park & Kim, 2012).…”

That is, family violence comprises of conflict that is a threat for adolescents because it is frequent, involves verbal and/or physical overt aggression, and is rancorous or hostile in form and content [31], [32].…”
