The major aim of this study was to determine how children diagnosed with autism shapes their parents" lives by specifying parents" life stories. The study group consisted of 10 parents who have children with autism. Parents who have participated in the study were determined through a preliminary interview prior to the study and in-depth interviews were conducted with volunteer parents. In the study, "Life Story Interview" list was implemented to examine the content of life stories that shape parents" lives. The data obtained from the research were analyzed using data analysis phases of interpretative phenomenology which is one of the qualitative research models. By analyzing the data obtained in the research, 10 major themes emerged. These major themes include; diagnosis, feeling, hopes and plans, concerns and questions, social reactions / stigmatization, parenting roles, coping with, sensitivity to disease, meaning of life and development. Analyses revealed that parents with autistic children undergo through a wide variety of emotions, challenges and difficulties during their daily lives and also that good coping skill is the key to normal functioning within the family which had an autistic child.
Introduction Orientation services are included in student personality services and they are services based on the program designed to help students adapt to the university. International student orientation has become an important issue for universities in recent years. The reason is to increase the number of international students with the aim of internationalization in higher education. According to the Higher Education Institution statistics on 2017-2018 academic year, there is a total of 125138 international students enrolled in universities in Turkey. This also requires some improvements and arrangements for the students. When the literature is examined, it is seen that there are a lot of studies about the problems experienced by international students but there are limited studies about international student orientation which should be among the suggestions to solve these problems. Since social media is a powerful information transfer and sharing tool in this modern world, it has become more used especially during the pandemic. It may be important to examine the use experiences of individuals in order to understand the impact of social media on individuals during the pandemic period. For this reason, the aim of the study is to examine the experiences of social media use in the pandemic of young adults who use social media actively in detail with thematic analysis. The study group of the research consists of 52 young adults between the ages of 20 and 25 studying at the university. In line with the thematic analysis, four main themes are found: "reasons for using social media", "shares", "social comparison", "self-regulation and addiction". Each theme is explained in the context of the relevant literature.
ÖzBu araştırmanın amacı Mutluluk Korkusu Ölçeği'nin Türk üniversite öğrencileri için psikometrik özelliklerinin incelenmesidir. Çalışma grubu yaşları 18 ile 33 arasında değişen 500 öğrenciden oluşmaktadır. Ölçeğin öncelikle dilsel eş değerliliği yapılmış sonra geçerlilik ve güvenirlik analizlerine geçilmiştir. Yapı geçerliliği için hem açımlayıcı hem de doğrulayıcı faktör analizi yapılmıştır. AbstractThe aim of this study was to examine psychometric properties of Fear of Happiness Scale in Turkish university students. The sample consisted of 500 university students from Trakya University whose ages ranged from 18-33. At first, linguistic equivalence of the scale was performed. After that validity and reliability analyses were conducted. Besides Fear of Happiness Scale, Life Satisfaction Scale was administered to the students. For criterion validity, Pearson Correlation coefficient was calculated between Fear of Happiness Scale and Life Satisfaction Scale. Cronbach Alpha was computed for reliability analysis. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis revealed that the structure of the original scale was acceptable for the Turkish sample. Internal consistency of the scale was found to be .89. Confirmatory factor analysis provides good fit values for this scale. There is negative relationship between Fear of Happiness Scale and Life Satisfaction Scale. The results of data analysis showed that the Fear of Happiness Scale is a valid and reliable measure for Turkish university students.
Bu çalışmanın temel amacı genç yetişkinlerin bilişsel duygu düzenleme tarzları ile ilişkisel bağımlı benlik kurguları arasında ilişkiyi incelemektir. Çalışmada ayrıca genç yetişkinlerin bilişsel duygu düzenleme tarzlarının, ilişkisel bağımlı benlik kurgusu düzeyi değişkenine göre farklılaşıp farklılaşmadığı ve ilişkisel bağımlı benlik kurgusu özelliklerinin cinsiyet değişkenine göre anlamlı bir farklılık gösterip göstermediği de araştırılmıştır. Araştırmada veriler Trakya Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesinde öğrenim gören 432 genç yetişkinden elde edilmiştir. Araştırma bulguları, bilişsel duygu düzenleme stratejilerinin bazı boyutları (kendini suçlama, kabul etme, düşünceye odaklanma, plana tekrar odaklanma, pozitif tekrar gözden geçirmek, bakış açısına yerleştirmek) ile ilişkisel bağımlı benlik kurgusu arasında pozitif yönde ilişkiler olduğunu göstermiştir. Ayrıca bilişsel duygu düzenleme stratejilerinin bazı boyutlarının (kendini suçlama, düşünceye odaklanma, plana tekrar odaklanma, bakış açısına yerleştirmek) ilişkisel bağımlı benlik kurgu düzeyine göre farklılaştığı ve kadınların ilişkisel bağımlı benlik kurgusu düzeylerinin erkeklere göre daha yüksek olduğu bulunmuştur.
The aim of the research is to determine the causes of these problems by revealing the problems of international students studying at Trakya University. For this reason, this research is a descriptive research. 118 international students studying at Trakya University Education Faculty in 2016-2017 constitute the sample of the study. International Students’ Problems Evaluation Form" and “International Students’ Problems Evaluation Interview Form” were used to collect data. Scaling based on V. Equation of comparative judgment case and content analysis were used for the analysis of the data. According to the findings obtained for the first purpose of the research, the most important problem that international students see is "Academic failure", followed by "University's Lack of Services for International Students", "Distant from Family", "Exposure to Discrimination Due to Being a Non-Turkish Citizen" Economic Difficulties ","Language Difficulties", "Unable to Adapt to Culture", "Accommodation Difficulties", “Loneliness”, and “Inability to Participate in Social Environments”. ÖzetAraştırmanın amacı, Trakya Üniversitesinde öğrenim görmekte olan uluslararası öğrencilerin sorunlarını ve bu sorunların nedenlerini belirlemektir. Bu yönüyle çalışma betimsel araştırma türündedir. Trakya Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesinde 2016-2017 eğitim öğretim yılında öğrenim görmekte olan 118 uluslararası öğrenci çalışmanın örneklemini oluşturmaktadır. Verilerin toplanmasında “Uluslararası Öğrencilerin Sorunlarını Değerlendirme Formu” ve “Uluslararası Öğrencilerin Sorunlarını Değerlendirme Görüşme Formu” kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizinde karşılaştırmalı yargı kanununun V. Hal denklemine dayalı ölçekleme yöntemi ve içerik analizi kullanılmıştır. Öğrencilerin en önemli gördükleri sorun “Akademik Başarısızlık” iken bunu sırasıyla “Üniversitenin Uluslararası Öğrenciler İçin Hizmetlerinin Azlığı”, “Aileden Uzak Olma”, “Türk Vatandaşı Olamamaktan Dolayı Ayrımcılığa Maruz Kalma”, “Ekonomik Sıkıntı”, “Dile Hâkim Olamama”, “Kültüre Uyum Sağlayamama”, “Barınma Sıkıntısı”, Yalnızlık” ve son olarak “Sosyal Ortamlara Katılamama” takip etmektedir. Öğrencilerin Türkçe ile ilgili sorunları ve önerileri” ile ilgili elde edilen sonuçlarda; öğrencilerin Türkçe ile ilgili olarak sırasıyla anlama, konuşma ve yazma becerilerinde sorun yaşadıkları bildirilmiştir.
In this study, the purpose is to examine to what extent the individuals’ self-stigma and self-construal predict their attitudes towards seeking psychological help. The sample group of the study was made of 377 adults aged 20-50 years. The data obtained from the scales based on self-reports of the participants were analyzed. Findings showed that there is a positive significant relationship between the attitude towards seeking psychological help and self-stigma. Self-stigma positively predicted the attitudes towards seeking psychological help; on the other hand, individual self-construal negatively predicted the attitudes towards seeking psychological help. In light of these findings, it is recommended that comparative studies in terms of self-stigma and self-construal according to gender can be conducted with different socio-cultural characteristics. Also, the persons of who have received or applied to counseling from psychological counseling centers, their self-stigma and self-construals levels can be investigated in later studies.
