This study mainly discusses the lack of implementation of forest development as a tourist attraction in Karangasem, Bali, Indonesia. This research aims to implement the results of ethnoecological studies to develop the Bukit Kangin Forest tourism in the traditional village of Tenganan Pegringsingan, Karangasem, Bali. The population in this study area is considered in two aspects, namely the ecosystem aspect and the socio-system one. The population of the ecosystem consists of all plant species in Bukit Kangin, while the population in the socio-system aspect is the entire community of Tenganan Pegringsingan traditional village. The sample of this research from the ecosystem aspect includes plant species covered by squares with a size of 20×20 meters including tree habitus (nature), 10×10 meters (which includes sapling), and squares with a size of 1×1 meters including seedling habitus. The number of squares is 65 squared. For the community sample, community components are selected with a total sample of 50 people. The ecosystem data collection uses the quadratic method with systematic sampling techniques. Meanwhile, the data collection is carried out by interview, observation sheets, and questionnaires. The data related to ecosystem was analysed using ecological statistical analysis, while the data related to the socio-system were analysed descriptively. Descriptive analysis was used to determine the prospects for forest tourism development. The conclusions of this study are the following: (1) the results of ethnoecological studies in the Bukit Kangin forest, Tenganan Pegringsingan Village, Karangasem, Bali, has the prospect of being developed into forest tourism as an alternative and complementary tourist destination; (2) Some of the results of ethnoecological studies and supported by socio-system that interact with each other can be in the form of plant species composition equipped with descriptions, utilization, processing methods and products of useful plant species. The results of ethnobotanical and ethnobiological studies are very supportive in the development of forest tourism in the Kangin hills, Tenganan Pegringsingan, Karang Asem, Bali. The trade of various non-edible plants in some traditional Indonesian markets has a close relationship with the biological and cultural diversity, as well as local knowledge of the community. Therefore, this study aims to examine the non-edible plant diversity used to make products sold in traditional markets, their various functions and parts, as well as the market chain. The study was conducted in Beringharjo, Yogyakarta, and Pasar Baru, Balikpapan, East Kalimantan to resemble regions with different cultural backgrounds. Data collection used the qualitative method with an ethnobotanical approach. The results showed that 25 species belonging to 16 families of non-edible plants were traded in the traditional markets of Beringharjo and Pasar Baru. The various parts being traded in both markets had numerous functions, including pilgrimage ceremonies at the cemetery, handicraft/decoration, and betel chewing. The market chain begins with farmers from villages, middlemen, traders in the traditional market, and then finally to consumers. The diversity of non-edible plants traded was determined by the biophysical and cultural aspects of the local community where the market is located. Therefore, traditional markets play an important role as hallmarks of a particular social culture by reproducing on a small scale the cultural and biological diversity. They are also essential in the acquisition and transmission of traditional knowledge of biodiversity.

The Hindu community in Jagaraga Village, West Lombok Regency is a local community whose life is closely related to the use of plants in daily life, including using plants in traditional rituals. Jagaraga Village has areas surrounded by rice fields and farms, therefore the Hindu community in Jagaraga Village performs the Tumpek Wariga traditional ceremony. Tumpek Wariga is held as a form of gratitude for the plants and also as a form of request to the plants to produce a good harvest. This ceremony is carried out 25 days before the Galungan ceremony. This study aims to explore the ethnobotanical aspects of the plants used in the Tumpek Wariga ceremony. The research was conducted in 5 hamlets of the Hindu community of Jagaraga Village, namely Tambang Eleh Hamlet, Lamper Hamlet, Karang Lamper Hamlet, West Jagaraga Hamlet and East Jagaraga Hamlet. All qualitative and quantitative data were analyzed descriptively based on the results of observations, interviews, calculations of Reported Use (RU) and the Index of Cultural Significance (ICS). Data collection in the field is done by observation, interviews, and documentation. The selection of sources using purposive sampling and snowball sampling methods. Based on the results obtained, 59 species of plants belong to 50 generas and 36 families are used in Tumpek Wariga ceremony in the Hindu community of Jagaraga Village, West Lombok Regency. These plants are used as food, other food ingredients such as spices, secondary materials, offerings and ritual equipments.
