The additivity of the digestible energy and apparent ileal digestible amino acid supply in barley, wheat and canola meal or soybean meal diets for growing pigs

Show more

“…In wheat, lowest SID values are generally observed for lysine (Pedersen et al, 2007;Hennig et al, 2008), but also for threonine (Widyaratne and Zijlstra, 2007b). The low SID of lysine has been attributed to its relatively low content compared to the other AA in wheat (Fan et al, 1993). Another reason is the prevalence of lysine in the aleurone fraction of wheat, which is known for its low digestibility (Green et al, 1987).…”

“…Another reason is the prevalence of lysine in the aleurone fraction of wheat, which is known for its low digestibility (Green et al, 1987). Low SID values for threonine mainly result from its relatively high contribution in endogenous gut protein in comparison to other AA (Sauer et al, 1981;Green et al, 1987;Fan et al, 1993).…”

“…The reason for the low SID of Lys is because the main portion of Lys is in the aleurone fraction of wheat which is known for its low digestibility (Green et al, 1987). A low SID value for Thr mainly resulted from its relatively high concentration of endogenous losses in comparison to other AA, instead of the cultivars of wheat (Sauer et al, 1981;Fan et al, 1993).…”

“…Furthermore, in the formulation of diets, it is usually assumed that the supply of available nutrients in a mixture of feed ingredients is equal to the total predicted supply based on the available nutrient supply determined in each of the feed ingredients (Fan et al 1993). It is not clear if P availability values measured by the slope-ratio assay for individual ingredients are additive in diet formulations, as there are no literature reports on this topic.…”
