“…Moreover, the level of myopic correction in previous studies was also higher (21,29) , which is likely to trigger a more exuberant wound healing response, possibly associated with generation of myofibroblasts and greater production of disorganized extracellular matrix as well as activated keratocytes (corneal fibroblasts), thus increasing ocular straylight. There are several reports (13,30) of haze as a cause of increased straylight, and we agree that the development of moderate-to-severe haze is an important factor (24) . In the present study, the overall low myopic correction, with and without MMC application, likely led to the faster recovery of corneal transparency.…”

“…31 However, due to the improvement of the surgical techniques, more recent reports seem to indicate a lower incidence of increased straylight levels in refractive surgery. 32,33 In the present paper, methodological aspects of straylight/glare assessment for the aging population are discussed. First, the performance of assessment technology will be presented, based on a multicenter study comparing 3 subject groups: young, aged, and cataractous.…”

“…It found that 33 out of 373 subjects who had had laser refractive surgery scored above this limit. Studies in refractive surgery centres showed somewhat better results (Beerthuizen, Franssen, L., & van den Berg, 2007;Lapid-Gortzak, van der Linden, van der Meulen, Nieuwendaal, & van den Berg, 2010;Rozema et al, 2010;Vignal, Tanzer, Brunstetter, & Schallhorn, 2008). Advancing techniques will, in time, yield more reliable results.…”
