This study aims to verify differences in the subjective well-being of 10 and 12 years old Brazilian boys and girls over time using data from the First (2012) and the Third (2019) Wave of Brazilian data collection on Children's Worlds research. Participants of the first wave were 2,338 children ( M = 11.08 years old, 55.3% girls) and of the third wave, they were 1,787 children ( M = 11.33 years old, 55.3% girls). We performed a Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) with subjective well-being scales (OLS, PWI-SC and BMSLSS) used as dependent variables, and age, gender and times of measurement (wave of data collection) were used as independent variables. Main results present that there are significant reductions of all subjective well-being means over time (from 2012 to 2019) regardless gender and age. These results denounce the profound changes in contexts associated with diminished investment in education, access to health, social care and children’s rights’ policies overall in Brazil and reinforce the perspective that children’s participation in society is essential for the development of public policies that represent their current needs.

O objetivo do presente estudo foi identificar as medidas utilizadas para avaliar as forças de caráter em crianças de até 12 anos por meio de uma revisão integrativa de literatura. Considerou-se o período entre 2008 e 2020, sendo que a CAPES, a ScieLO e a Redalyc foram as bases de dados utilizadas. Foram analisados nove artigos, considerando ano de publicação, instrumentos utilizados, características amostrais e os construtos relacionados às forças. Os anos de 2013, 2014 e 2015 foram os que tiveram o maior número de publicações. As amostras dos estudos analisados foram compostas por estudantes. As variáveis associadas ao contexto escolar e construtos como a satisfação com a vida e o otimismo foram associados com maior frequência às forças de caráter. Além de ser o instrumento mais utilizado, o Values in Action-Youth parece ser o instrumento mais aceito para avaliar as forças em crianças. Conclui-se que o contexto escolar tem sido considerado um espaço importante para o desenvolvimento das forças pessoais de crianças, preservação da saúde e enfrentamento de problemas da vida.

Children’s Subjective Well-Being, Peer Relationships and Resilience: An Integrative Literature Review

This study presents an integrative review of the scientific literature on children's subjective well-being (SWB) and its association with peer relationships and resilience. Articles addressing children's SWB published in English and Portuguese from 2014 to 2020 were investigated. The data bases were PubMed, PsycINFO, SciELO, Scopus. 14 studies were selected after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Most of the articles were published in English, were empirical studies, with quantitative design, and samples of children in the school context. There was an association between children's SWB and peer relationships, with contribution of personal (e.g. sex) and contextual (e.g. school environment) variables to the relationship between these constructs. Individual (e.g. self-esteem) and contextual (e.g. positive parenting) aspects of resilience were found as variables that are related to children's SWB. The review highlights the potential of positive peer relationships in childhood as a predictor of both SWB and resilience.
