Show more

“…Penicillium sp. are important storage fungi that affect the pinhões (Hennipman, Santos, Vieira, & Auer, 2017) and may be indicators of the deterioration of seeds and grains (Cardoso et al, 2011). The slight increase observed in the reducing sugar values may be due to the conversion of starch to soluble sugars as a function of the maturation process (Toivonen & Brummell, 2008).…”

“…The results of forest seed health obtained in research developed with seed treatment, involving physical methods (Oliveira et al, 2011;Lazarotto et al, 2013;Françoso and Barbedo, 2014;Hennipman et al, 2017), biological methods (Fantinel et al, 2015;Martín-García et al, 2017;Silva et al, 2018) and more recently the use of plant extracts (Choudhury et al, 2018;Dourado et al, 2020;Lima et al, 2020;Almeida et al, 2021;Andrade et al, 2021), have shown some advances in pathogen control. However, studies that seek to increase the storage period, especially of species intolerant to desiccation, despite important advances, have not yet achieved substantial gains, obtaining an extension for a few months or, exceptionally, years (Barbedo, 2018).…”

“…In this case, non-disinfested seeds were more frequently attacked by fungi, especially by Penicillium, which negatively affected germination. On the other hand, Hennipman et al (2017) reported that the beginning of germination in Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze was delayed when seeds were treated with sodium hypochlorite, which caused a temporary damaging effect on germination, and this was not observed in the present study.…”
