Introduction: Heart transplantation is currently the only widely accepted surgical alternative to treat patients with severe heart failure (HF) drug therapy cannot maintain optimal quality of life appropriate.Objective: To describe and to compare the values between pre-and postoperative physical capacity and pulmonary patients who underwent heart transplantation.Methods: A retrospective cohort composed of patients undergoing heart transplantation between January 2001 to March 2005 in IC-FUC/RS.Results: Were included in the 21 individuals. We observed decreased levels of volume and lung capacity (FEV1 and FVC) in the first days after surgery compared to preoperatively (P <0.001) and recovery of these values in the 14th postoperative day (P <0.001). The values of muscle strength showed similar trends in reducing post-operative period compared to preoperative (P <0.001) and recovered on the 14 th postoperative day (P <0.001). A useful functional capacity, measured by testing 6-minute walk test (T6') showed improvement in the 14 th postoperative day in relation to pre-operatively (P <0.001). Conclusion:Changes in ventilatory function of subjects undergoing cardiac transplantation are predictable, but these recover respiratory muscle strength and lung capacity within two weeks, and improve functional capacity useful in relation to pre-operative, the transplantation, when indicated, associated with good functional rehabilitation is very god treatment strategy.Descriptors: Heart transplantation. Objective: Determining the impact of coronary artery bypass grafting on the Quality of Life of patients, analyzing and comparing dimensions of Quality of Life before and after surgery; comparing sociodemographic and clinical variables with the aspects of depression and anxiety, in the pre and postoperative periods. Methods: A descriptive exploratory study in which 78 patients were included in the pre and postoperative periods. International instruments of research were used and validated to assess quality of life and the aspects of depression and anxiety. Results: There was significant improvement in all domains of the Quality of Life, depression and anxiety (p=0.05). The physical and social domains of the 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey showed lower scores (13.46 and 3.03, respectively), as well as the social domain of the Macnew instrument (3.03). Conclusion: Coronary artery bypass surgery caused positive impact on the Quality of Life of these patients. ResumoObjetivo: Determinar o impacto da cirurgia de revascularização do miocárdio na Qualidade de Vida dos pacientes; analisar e comparar dimensões da Qualidade de Vida antes e após a intervenção cirúrgica; comparar variáveis sociodemográficas e clínicas aos aspectos de depressão e ansiedade, pré e pós-operatórios. Métodos: Estudo descritivo exploratório no qual foram incluídos 78 pacientes no pré e pós-operatório. Foram utilizados instrumentos de pesquisa internacionais e validados para avaliar a qualidade de vida e os aspectos de depressão e ansiedade. Resultados: Houve melhora significativa em todos os domínios da Qualidade de Vida, depressão e ansiedade (p=0,05). Domínios físico e social do 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey apresentaram menor pontuação dos escores (13,46 e 3,03, respectivamente), bem como o domínio social do instrumento Macnew (3,03). Conclusão: Cirurgia de revascularização ocasionou impacto positivo na Qualidade de Vida desses pacientes.

Teste de caminhada de seis minutos como ferramenta para avaliar a qualidade de vida em pacientes submetidos à cirurgia de revascularização miocárdicaSix-minute walk test as a tool for assessing the quality of life in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting surgery Abstract Objective: Evaluate the quality of life in patients undergoing myocardial revascularization using the sixminute walk test.Methods: This is a prospective observational study with patients undergoing CABG. We recorded the following clinical variables: the six-minute walk test and the SF-36 test. The patients were evaluated at the preoperative time and at 2 months of the postoperative period. Patients were evaluated preoperatively and divided into two groups according to the 6-minute walking test: the group with a walking course of >350 meters and the group with a walking course of less than 350 meters at the preoperative time.Results: The study population included 87 patients. Mean age was similar in both groups (59 ± 9.5 years vs. 61 ± 9.3 years, respectively, P = 0.24). Distances walked were significantly longer in the group with a walking course of >350 meters compared to the group with a walking course of <350 meters after 2 months of operation (436 ± 78 meters vs. 348 ± 87 meters; P <0.01). The quality of life was lower in the group with a walking course of <350 meters compared to the group with a walking course of >350 meters in the preoperative period in the following domains: functional capabilities, limitations due to physical aspects, overall health feelings, vitality, and social aspects. Quality of life improved after two months in both groups.Conclusions: The six-minute walk test at the preoperative time is associated with the quality of life after two months of coronary artery bypass grafting. In overall, quality of life has improved in all patients.
