“…On the other hand, a study from 2018, carried out in Rio de Janeiro, showed that there was an increase in this testing method in the maternity during the hospitalization for childbirth, due to the lack of knowledge about the serological status and the need of immediate results (1,7) . Another work published in 2020 evaluated the prevention of the vertical transmission of HIV in the hospital context, and both the outcomes found a correlation with interventions that were not timely or adequate to be used in the primary care for pregnant women (19) .…”

As faltas citadas indicam fragilidades na organização dos serviços que atuam diretamente no binômio mãe-bebê e comprometem a eficácia das ações de prevenção (28) .…”

“…In addition to these measures, a study called PAcTG 1043 proved greater efficacy in the treatment of exposed neonates with the introduction of nevirapine (NVP) to the chemoprophylaxis scheme of vertical transmission of HiV during the first 48 hours of life. Its indication occurs due to the mother's viral load or the non-use of antiretroviral therapy (ArT) during pregnancy (3). Furthermore, the Brazilian protocol recommends the use of sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim (SMZ-TMP) for children of 4 to 6 weeks born to mothers living with HiV/AidS, also indicating the need for differentiated health care.…”

“…However, despite governmental efforts and the effectiveness of existing prophylaxis measures, the elimination of HiV VT remains a challenge for health policies in Brazil. The country has not yet achieved the Pan American Health Organization (PAHo) and World Health Organization (WHo) goal of reducing VT of the virus to less than two cases for every 100 infected mothers (3).…”
