The purpose of this article is to provide insights into hotel efficiency and investigate which hotels are performing better. Hotel efficiency is examined using data envelopment analysis (DEA) and the outputoriented BCC model is applied on the hotels' internal accounting information. The study further explores whether there are differences in efficiency between hotels of different size and quality. The results show that average efficiency is high, but not all hotels are performing at their maximum efficiency. A significant relationship between size and hotel efficiency has been found. This study provides a potential framework for efficiency measurement and contributes to the growing body of knowledge in the area of hotel efficiency in the context of a country that is predominantly concentrated on seasonal seaside tourism. The results of this research offer useful insights for hotel managers, suggest ways of enhancing hotel productivity and provide guidance on which aspects to focus their attention in the decision-making process.

Formas plurais na aquisição da matéria-prima: uma análise do setor de torrefação e moagem de café no Brasil

ResumoO objetivo deste artigo é analisar os fatores que levam à utilização de formas plurais para aquisição de matéria-prima no setor de torrefação e moagem de café no Brasil. Para tanto, foi realizado um estudo quantitativo por meio da aplicação de questionários semiestruturados em 120 empresas. Foi possível constatar que as formas plurais de governança estão presentes em 16,6% da amostra. Verificou-se que o tempo de atuação da empresa no mercado possui uma relação negativa e significativa com o uso de formas plurais, ou seja, quanto menor a idade da empresa, maior a probabilidade de utilizar formas plurais de governança. Isso indica que a desregulamentação do setor foi um fator importante para o acontecimento dessa forma de governança, dado que as empresas que utilizam formas plurais tem idade média de 19,5 anos, ou seja, começaram a atuar dois anos após a desregulamentação. Além disso, foi possível observar que as empresas que entraram no setor após a desregulamentação utilizam mecanismos mais complexos para a aquisição do café verde, como a integração vertical. his papers aims to analyze the factors that lead to use of plural forms for the purchase of raw material in the coffee roasting and grind industry in Brazil. For that, it was made a quantitative study through the application of semi-structured questionnaires with 120 companies. It was possible to find that the plural forms happen in 16,6% of the sample. It was found that the time of work of the company has a negative and significant relationship with the use of plural forms, that is, the lower the age of the company, the more likely to use plural forms of governance. This indicates that the deregulation of the industry was an important factor for the occurrence of this form of governance, given that the companies that use plural forms has an average age of 19,5 years old, that is, they started to work two years after the deregulation. In addition, it was observed that the companies that entered in the industry after the deregulation use mechanisms more complex for the purchase of green coffee, such as vertical integration. Abstract. The aim of this paper is to analyse the regional tourist competitiveness performance in Spain. We use the seven pillars of tourism from a very detailed and complete database carried out by the Spanish Government -MoniTUR 2010 as primary data. Thus, we calculate several regional tourist competitiveness indices using data envelopment analysis (DEA) to analyse the robustness of the results obtained in the ranking of the tourist competitiveness for the 17 Spanish Autonomous Communities. Our results are robust to the use of two different modelling strategies: (1) input and output variables selection; and (2) virtual and super efficiency DEA models. Madrid and La Rioja are found to be the most competitive regions; meanwhile other inland regions of Spain like Extremadura and Aragón are the least competitive. The position of each of the laggard Autonomous Communities should be analysed by their respective destination management organizations (DMOs) in order to envisage adequate corrective measures.
