Pengaruh Kemampuan Membaca Peta Terhadap Penguasaan Konsep Interaksi Keruangan Pada Siswa Sma Negeri Di Kota Medan

The map is a complete picture of phenomena in a particular area or location within a certain period. It can explain the distribution, interactions, and associations that occur. Success in reading maps is required for two things, namely, the quality of the map and the competence of map readers. This study analyzed students’ ability to read maps of Merapi Volcano hazardous areas by students at SMA Negeri 1 Cangkringan, Sleman Regency. This study used a quantitative approach using primary data obtained through tests. This study used a non-probability sampling technique with a sample of 64 students of class XI Social Sciences at SMA Negeri 1 Cangkringan. The analysis technique used was descriptive statistical analysis. The results showed that the level of ability to read the Merapi Volcano hazard map by students at SMA Negeri 1 Cangkringan 14 students (21.9%) belonged to the moderate category, and 50 students (78.1%) were in the high category. Therefore, the average score for the student’s ability to read the Merapi Hazardous map was 76.23 (moderate category). The results of the ability to read maps when viewed by gender showed that out of 28 male students, six students (21.4%) belonged to the moderate category, and 22 students (78.6%) were in the high category. Meanwhile, for female students, there were eight students (22.2%) in the moderate category, and 28 students (78.8%) were in the high category.

Students’ knowledge of flood-prone locations around schools

Knowledge of location has an important role in decision making, especially during a disaster. This study aimed to analyze the location knowledge of MTsN 5 Klaten students related to floods around the school. Knowledge of the location or the surrounding environment can be used to reduce the disaster risk, in order to increase student capacity. This research was quantitative research. The population of this study were all students at MTsN 5 Klaten, totalling 348 students. The research sample totalled 103 students who were taken by purposive sampling method. This method was taken because class IX students had experienced a flood at MTsN 5 Klaten. Data collection techniques used a questionnaire. The data analysis used descriptive statistics. The results of the study showed that the level of students’ knowledge of the location of the flood-prone area was included in the moderate category, with an average value of 75.01. Most of the students have a moderate category with a percentage of 76.7%. There were 9 students (8.7%) in the high category and 15 students (14.6%) included in the low category. The low score of location knowledge regarding distance calculations reflects the need for distance calculation training for students in order to increase students’ location knowledge of flood.

Composing The Map of Ambon Island to Strengthen the History Student’s Spatial Thinking Skills

This paper aims to guide how the history teacher facilitates his student to compose their map and develop their spatial thinking skill. This paper is divided into three sections of Hikayat Tanah Hitu, visualizing the narrative map of Ambon and teaching how to compose the historical map to strengthen student’s spatial thinking skills. The first deals with the historical context and the characteristics of Hikayat Tanah Hitu. Second, the researchers aim to narrate their experience to compose a digital map, by Geographical Information System (GIS), based on the narrative map of Hikayat Tanah Hitu (Hitu Chronicle). The last refers to the researchers’ suggestion for history teachers to teach their students. The researchers also suggest that the next researcher analyze all place names mentioned in Hikayat Tanah Hitu and visualize them into several digital maps.
