Previously, several toponymy studies have already been conducted both in the Nusa (Island) Ambon as well as in the City of Ambon. However, previous studies have not used the historical-archaeological approach. The use of this approach could ease the researchers to reveal the cross-cultural meeting in a specific locus. Taking the Island of Ambon as a locus, the researchers aim to find the origin of village names and the cultural intersection in Leihitu and Leitimor Peninsula. There were three steps conducted to collect and analyse data using historical-archaeological approach. Firstly, the researchers identified and took a tabulation of the village names, mentioned by the Hikayat Tanah Hitu (The Epic of Hitu Land) and three ancient maps. Secondly, the researchers identified various archaeological remains located in the scattered villages. Finally, the researchers analysed the origin of village names by searching the word-meanings, finding the present locations, and describing the role of the contemporary cultures (Islamic and Colonial period) in the past. The researchers found 12 villages with 22 archaeological remains. All related communities have the archaeological remains which could explain the local dynamics, but there are merely ten villages which name meanings could be identified.
This research focuses on the effect of religious values on several life aspects in the Majapahit. There were two kinds of religious doctrine which had been grown in the Majapahit era, Hinduism and Buddhism. Therefore, this research is limitedly focusing on those two religions doctrine's effects to be analyzed. The researcher is using both artifactual data and literature as his approaches (historicalarchaeology approach). To get comprehensive understanding about artefact or monuments (Candi), this study uses several literatures as his references. Furthermore, some religious monuments were analyzed by using monumental and explanation observation methods. The effect of Hinduism-Buddhism could clearly be seen in several aspects, such as: (1) king and governmental system, (2) territorial layout concept, (3) social life, (4) sacred building architecture, (4) the way Majapahit perceive relationships with others. Majapahit had been getting powerless then collapsed while Hinduism and Buddhism values had no longer applied well in their life.
This paper aims to guide how the history teacher facilitates his student to compose their map and develop their spatial thinking skill. This paper is divided into three sections of Hikayat Tanah Hitu, visualizing the narrative map of Ambon and teaching how to compose the historical map to strengthen student’s spatial thinking skills. The first deals with the historical context and the characteristics of Hikayat Tanah Hitu. Second, the researchers aim to narrate their experience to compose a digital map, by Geographical Information System (GIS), based on the narrative map of Hikayat Tanah Hitu (Hitu Chronicle). The last refers to the researchers’ suggestion for history teachers to teach their students. The researchers also suggest that the next researcher analyze all place names mentioned in Hikayat Tanah Hitu and visualize them into several digital maps.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
