Objective:To describe the observed behavior of professionals in two neonatal and pediatric intensive care units regarding the use of central venous catheter insertion bundle, and the clinical and birth profile of neonates and children who received the devices. Method: A quantitative descriptive exploratory study was conducted in two intensive care units of a public hospital in Belo Horizonte with neonates and children, between February and September 2016. Results: The sample consisted of 59 observed implants of central venous catheter. Most patients were male preterm infants, of cesarean delivery and proper weight according to the gestational age. Among all procedures observed, only three followed all recommendations for the central venous catheter insertion bundle. Incorrect techniques were observed while performing surgical antisepsis and inadequate use of chlorhexidine, an antiseptic. Conclusion: The findings highlight the importance of more investment in continuous training of the team on the prevention of bloodstream infection caused by central venous catheter to reduce the number of adverse events related to intravenous therapy. The adoption of central venous catheters (CVC) in clinical practice was an important advance in the care to preterm newborns, ensuring safe venous access with less invasive, simple and low-cost techniques.The types of CVC commonly used in pediatrics and neonatology are peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC), central insertion catheters, and umbilical venous catheters (UVC). These devices allow continuous administration of intravenous fluids and medications, parenteral nutrition, hemodynamic monitoring, and in some cases transfusion of blood products, depending on the catheter caliber and the patient's age (2,4) . Despite the advantages of CVC, there are risks of complications associated with their use, such as venous thromboembolism, hemorrhage, infiltration, rupture, phlebitis and infection, with primary bloodstream infections (PBSI) being the most frequently related to health care (5)(6)(7) . PBSI can lead to clinical complications for patients, longer hospital stay, increased morbidity and mortality, and a significant increase in health care costs (8) . Planning and adopting PBSI prevention measures is essential for reducing morbidity and mortality rates, improving the quality and safety of health care, and reducing hospitalization costs (7,(9)(10) . Objective:To describe nurses' experience in the care of high-risk newborns. Method: This is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach, based on Merleau-Ponty's phenomenology and performed at the Fernando Magalhães Maternity Hospital in the state of Rio de Janeiro, through interviews with 30 nurses who work in neonatal care, according to the phenomenological thinking of Maurice Merleau-Ponty. Results: Three categories emerged: "experienced body of the nurse practitioner on the high-risk newborn"; "experienced world of the nurse practitioner on the high-risk newborn"; and "time spent by the nurse practitioner with the high-risk newborn". Final considerations:The study allowed us to describe, through the participants' speeches, that the care of the high-risk newborn is broad, that is, objective, subjective and carried out with advanced technologies, their experiences and scientific improvement are composed of shared practice and theory with the family, professionals and beginners in the neonatal universe, favoring a differentiated and humanized care. RESUMOObjetivo: Descrever a vivência do enfermeiro no cuidado ao recém-nascido de alto risco. Método: Estudo descritivo com abordagem qualitativa, pautado na fenomenologia de Merleau-Ponty e realizado no Hospital Maternidade Fernando Magalhães do estado do Rio de Janeiro, por meio de entrevistas com 30 enfermeiros que atuam no cuidado neonatal, segundo o pensamento fenomenológico de Maurice Merleau-Ponty. Resultados: Emergiram três categorias: "corpo vivido do profissional enfermeiro sobre o recém-nascido de alto risco"; "mundo vivido do profissional enfermeiro sobre o recém-nascido de alto risco"; e "tempo vivido do profissional enfermeiro sobre o recém-nascido de alto risco". Considerações finais: O estudo nos permitiu descrever, através das falas dos participantes, que o cuidado ao recém-nascido de alto risco é amplo, ou seja, objetivo, subjetivo e realizado com tecnologias avançadas, suas vivências e aprimoramento científico composto do teórico prático compartilhado com a família, profissionais e iniciantes no universo neonatal favorecendo um cuidado diferenciado e humanizado. Avaliar conhecimento, atitude e prática da equipe de enfermagem no manejo da dor no recém-nascido, segundo a formação profissional. Estudo transversal, realizado na Unidade Neonatal em hospital de referência em Recife, estado de Pernambuco, com 105 profissionais, entre agosto e outubro de 2014. Análise realizada no Stata 12.1, utilizado teste t-Student e considerado p<0,05. Quando comparado conhecimento, atitude e prática da equipe de enfermagem, houve melhor desempenho para atitude, embora não tenha sido estatisticamente significante. Em conhecimento e prática, no nível superior, o valor foi significativo para os que receberam treinamento sobre manejo da dor. No nível médio, todas as diferenças de médias foram significantes (p<0,05). Para todos os profissionais, a atitude apresentou maiores médias. Conclui-se que os profissionais que trabalham com o recém-nascido devem ser capacitados e treinados continuamente, para que o conhecimento teórico reflita sobre a prática profissional.
