O estudo teve como objetivo conhecer as inter-relações geracionais que interferem no cuidado do coto umbilical do recém-nascido. Pesquisa descritiva, de abordagem qualitativa, fundamentada na Teoria da Diversidade e Universalidade do Cuidado Cultural, realizada no município de Jequié-Bahia com 29 sujeitos, sendo 10 puérperas e 19 familiares cuidadores. Os dados foram coletados por meio de entrevista semiestruturada, observação participante subsidiada pelo diário de campo. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de conteúdo. Os resultados demonstraram a influência dos valores culturais no sistema familiar intergeracional, no processo de cuidar, de modo a promover riscos de adoecimento referente às práticas populares de cuidados do coto umbilical. Assim, as ações educativas necessitam considerar o contexto cultural dos sujeitos envolvidos, de maneira a promover a congruência entre os saberes popular e o científico.

Objective: To identify the oral manifestations and salivary pH before and after chemotherapy in pediatric patients. Material and Methods: The sample consisted of 46 children. It was included children from 2 to 12 years, diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) and they would be subjected to chemotherapy. The first evaluation was performed before chemotherapy and consisted of anamnesis, oral clinical examination and saliva collection to measure the pH. The second evaluation was performed among 10 to 15 days after the start of chemotherapy treatment and consisted of new saliva collection and clinical examination. Results: The results showed that the gender most affected by childhood cancer was male. The predominant age group were children aged 8-12 years. The most frequent oral manifestations were mucositis (35%), xerostomia (26%), toothache and dysphagia (22%). There was also a significant reduction in salivary pH after chemotherapy, p <0.0001, indicating that the average pre and post chemotherapy are different (Δ = 10.6) with statistical significance at the 5% level. Conclusion: Patients with ALL can present any lesion in the oral cavity during or after the start of chemotherapy and undergo changes in the amount of salivary pH. The dentist needs and know the oral manifestations and intervene in the oral health of patients with ALL, contributing and assisting in their treatment.

This paper reports the discovery of glacial deposits of likely Siderian–Rhyacian age (2.58–2.06 Ga) in South America (Carajás Basin, Brazil), thereby expanding the potential reach of Paleoproterozoic glaciations to the Amazonian craton for the first time. Glacially derived diamictites are stacked within a hitherto unrecognized ∼600-m-thick siliciclastic succession, here named the Serra Sul Formation. Well-preserved textures, with evidence of glaciotectonism and ice rafting, indicate deposition in a coastal subglacial to glacial-fed submarine fan system, in which the immediately underlying units (banded iron formation and volcanic rock) were the main source and bedrock. The Serra Sul diamictite may be correlated with any of the known Paleoproterozoic glaciations, or with none of them.

The Permian Period of the Parnaíba Basin, northern Brazil, represented here by deposits from the Pedra de Fogo Formation, records important events that occurred in Western Gondwana near its boundary with the Mesozoic Era. The analysis of outcrop based facies from the Permian Pedra de Fogo Formation, which is 100 m thick, carried out along the eastern and western borders of the Parnaiba Basin, allowed the identification of eleven sedimentary facies, which were grouped into three distinct facies associations (FA), representative of a shallow lacustrine system associated with mudflats and ephemeral rivers. Bioturbation, desiccation cracks, silcretes and various siliceous concretions characterize the Pedra de Fogo deposits. The FA1 mudflat deposits occur predominantly at the base of the Pedra de Fogo Formation and consist of laminated claystone/mudstone, mudcrack-bearing sandstones/mudstones and sandstones exhibiting cross-lamination, massive and megaripple bedding. Popcorn-like silicified nodules and casts indicate evaporite deposits. Other common features are silica concretions, silicified tepees and silcretes. FA2 represents nearshore deposits and consists of fine-grained sandstones with evenly parallel lamination, climbing ripple cross-lamination, massive and megaripple bedding and mudstone/siltstone showing evenly parallel lamination. FA3 refers to wadi/inundite deposits, generally organized as finingupward cycles of metric size, composed of conglomerates and medium-grained pebbly sandstones showing massive bedding and cross-stratification, as well as claystone/siltstone showing evenly parallel to undulate lamination. Scour-and-fill features are isolated in predominantly tabular deposits composed of mudstones interbedded with fine to medium-grained sandstones showing planar to slightly undulate lamination. Silicified plant remains previously classified as belonging to the Psaronius genus found in the uppermost levels of the Pedra de Fogo Formation, near the contact with the Motuca Formation, are considered here as excellent biostratigraphic markers. Fish remains, ostracods, bryozoans and scolecodonts represent other fossils that are present in the succession. Mudflat deposits developed in an arid and hot climate probably in the Early Permian. Semi-arid conditions prevailed in the Middle Permian allowing the proliferation of fauna and flora in adjacent humid regions and onto the lake margin. The climate variation was responsible for the contraction and expansion phases of the lake, fed by sporadic sheet floods carrying plant remains. The reestablishment of the arid climate, at the end of Permian, marks the final sedimentation of the Pedra de Fogo Formation, linked to the consolidation of the Pangaea Supercontinent. This last event was concomitant with the deposition of the Motuca Formation red beds and the development of extensive ergs related to the Triassic Sambaíba Formation in Western Gondwana.

Objetivo: conhecer demandas para o cuidado no âmbito da sexualidade de adolescentes. Método: estudo descritivo, abordagem qualitativa, tendo gênero como categoria analítica. Realizado com 12 adolescentes de dois colégios públicos estaduais do interior da Bahia. Foram utilizadas oficinas de reflexão e questionário para produção do material empírico e analisado pela técnica de análise de discurso. Resultados: Adolescentes consideram a sexualidade como dimensão humana que demanda atenção à saúde, com necessidade de orientações e cuidado direcionados a vulnerabilidades e conhecimento do corpo. As demandas apresentadas revelam um grupo que defende uma sexualidade saudável e prazerosa, livre de tabus e preconceitos, mas carente de orientações. Conclusão: Busca-se assim promover saúde e prevenir agravos, bem como superar desigualdades de gênero abrindo caminhos ao empoderamento das mulheres. Urge a necessidade da aproximação escola e serviços de saúde para implementar políticas que se traduzam em formação e cuidado de adolescentes.
