Myocardial ischemic preconditioning upregulated protein 1(Mipu1):zinc finger protein 667 - a multifunctional KRAB/C2H2 zinc finger protein

Abstract: Myocardial ischemic preconditioning upregulated protein 1 (Mipu1) is a newly discovered upregulated gene produced in rats during the myocardial ischemic preconditioning process. Mipu1 cDNA contains a 1824-base pair open reading frame and encodes a 608 amino acid protein with an N-terminal Krüppel-associated box (KRAB) domain and classical zinc finger C2H2 motifs in the C-terminus. Mipu1 protein is located in the cell nucleus. Recent studies found that Mipu1 has a protective effect on the ischemia-reperfusion i… Show more

“…While recent findings report a decrease in circulating levels of miR-126 after myocardial infarction, miR-126 expression profiles can also be correlated to cardiac function indexes, strongly supporting the contribution of miR-126 to regulation of proper cardiac function ( Fig. 1 ) [81] , [84] .…”

“…It directly inhibits sprout-related, EVH1 domain, containing 1 (SPRED1), an inhibitor of the extracellular regulated MAP kinase (ERK), to prevent its anti-angiogenic action. miR-126 is also a potent anti-apoptotic factor through regulation of the PI3K/Akt [81] , [82] , [83] . “…Zinc finger proteins could mediate the zinc-induced protection against ischemic damage at several levels. For instance, ZNF667 or Mipu1 regulates gene expression [ 68 70 ] activated by inflammatory mediators [ 71 ] and oxidative stress [ 72 , 73 ]. Through this mechanism, zinc inhibits Bax [ 70 ] and Fas [ 72 ] expression, thus preventing apoptosis.…”

“…Myocardial ischemic preconditioning upregulated protein 1 (Mipu1) is a newly discovered upregulated gene produced in rats during the myocardial ischemic preconditioning process. Mipu1 is a nuclear factor with a variety of biological functions, such as participation in the process of myocardial ischemic preconditioning, protection of the myocardium from ischemic disease, and inflammation [24]. Analysis of the function of Mipu1, as well as vascular endothelial growth factor-A (an important neuroprotectant) and ACE (a central component of the renin-angiotensin system) in CVD is beneficial because it may provide new ideas for prevention of cardiovascular aging.…”
