Mineralized Plasmatic Matrix to Enhance the Bone Grafting Technique

Abstract: Dental implants are the best choice to replace missing teeth. However, to place an implant suffi cient bone around the implant is needed. Sometimes, the height or the thickness of the natural bone where an implant should be placed is not suffi cient. For such cases bone grafting is recommended. In order to succeed bone grafting, it is necessary to achieve a good stability of the graft, enough vascularisation, and a tension free closure of the fl ap. The use of screwed bone block may solve the stability problem… Show more

“…In the present study, in the MPM and β-TCP groups, 35.40% and 26.92% new bone formation were found after a healing period of 6 months, respectively, raising the possibility that MPM may induce new bone formation in sinus lifting procedures when used as a bone graft. El Moheb et al [25] performed an animal study and concluded that MPM was effective in inducing bone formation. MPM and β-TCP were applied into surgically created defects in sheep.…”

“…The success rates in the autogenous bone graft are from 73.8% to 100%. Autogenous bone grafts were taken from the chin or the iliac crest of the same patient have been the standard for alveolar reconstruction, specifically, due to their osteogenic, osteoconductive, osteoinductive, and lack of immunogenic properties; which will enhance graft consolidation, help maintain graft morphology and possibly improve long term survival 15,16 . In this study cortico-cancellous autogenous particulate bone graft was used as a grafting material in the control group.…”

“…Combining PRF with bone grafts is advantageous to other platelet preparations in stabilizing the grafting material at the defect site along with growth factors included in the platelets, leukocytes & fibrin network (31). Recently this combination was considered as a regenerative material showed enhanced healing of both hard & soft tissue (32) . Also it was found that Adding PRF to bone sub statute particles significantly reduce the time required to promote graft consolidation, maturation, and improved trabecular bone density (33) .Beside that, PRF may hasten natural healing in immuno-compromised patients, and those with a history of radiotherapy because it is able to stimulate natural defiance mechanisms (34) .…”
