Show more

“…In some orchards, auxins are applied along with ethephon to avoid fruit drop. During postharvest, other products are also used to delay fruit ripening, such as 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) (Fawbush et al, 2008(Fawbush et al, , 2009 and ethylene absorption sachets (ABS) (Brackmann et al, 2010;Corrêa et al, 2011). However, there is little information on the effect of these products on gas diffusion and on ethylene production, respiration rate, and physiological disorders of fruit after storage.…”

“…The variables analyzed were flesh firmness, texture attributes (forces to peel rupture, flesh penetration and fruit compression), red color index (RCI), color of the epidermis (hº), intensity of internal browning (L), occurrence of cracking, rot and internal browning, respiratory and ethylene production rates, titratable acidity (TA) and soluble solids (SS), according to the methodology described in Corrêa et al (2011) and Steffens et al (2014).…”

“…Several studies have demonstrated the effect of 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP), an ethylene action inhibitor, on ripening delay and control of plum internal browning (ARGENTA et al, 2003;CANDAN et al, 2006;CORRÊA et al, 2011). However, the 1-MCP has a high cost and a difficult application management to be implemented in MA storage.…”

“…Internal browning may be aggravated by the effect of ethylene (CANDAN; GRAEL; LARRIGAUDIÉRE, 2011;CORRÊA et al, 2011) and lower diffusion of O 2 and CO 2 gases through the flesh in stored fruits (BRACKMANN et al 2014). Thus, the use of complementary technologies to CA, such as 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP), induction of mass loss (IML) and low ethylene (LE) may be alternatives to reduce the occurrence and severity of internal browning.…”

“…Several studies have shown the effect of 1-MCP on ripening delay and post-harvest fruit quality maintenance (CANDAN; GRAEL; LARRIGAUDIÉRE, 2011;CORRÊA et al, 2011;MANGANARIS et al, 2008). Since internal browning in plums is aggravated by ethylene, 1-MCP may reduce its occurrence (CANDAN; GRAEL; LARRIGAUDIÉRE, 2011;CORRÊA et al, 2011). On the other hand, CA combined with LE may present similar effects to 1-MCP in 'Laetitia' plums.…”
