ISSR Markers as a Tool for the Assessment of Genetic Diversity in Passiflora

Abstract: Genetic variation among sweet, purple, and yellow passion fruit accessions was assessed using inter-simple sequence repeat (ISSR) markers. Eighteen ISSR primers were used to evaluate 45 accessions. The number of polymorphic bands per primer varied from 4 to 22, with 12.4 bands per primer on average. Nei's genetic distance between accessions ranged from 0.04 to 0.35. Clustering using the neighbor-joining method resulted in the formation of 11 major clusters. It was not possible to classify the accessions accord… Show more

“…A high polymorphism indicating the high-genetic variability of the Passiflora genus by RAPD markers has already been reported by Bellon et al (2009Bellon et al ( , 2014, Viana et al (2010), Castro et al (2011), andCerqueira-Silva et al (2012). This fact have been verified also by Santos et al (2011b), Costa et al (2012), and Sousa et al (2015) by using ISSR markers.…”

“…Out of these, the primer A08FP1 amplified in all species (Table 4). Aiming to confirm the presence of hybrids in the cross between P. sublanceolata and P. foetida L., Santos et al (2011) used the same primer, which was polymorphic for the parents, whose progeny presented bands belonging to both parents. This indicates that the primer in question is highly polymorphic and can be used in studies with species on the genus Passiflora.…”

“…However, no relationship was observed among the species. Santos et al (2011) found enormous genetic variability while using ISSR markers to access the variability of P. edulis from different sources.…”
